Student answer (Band 6.5)
MANY PEOPLE HAVE THE IDEA THAT SHARING ALL THE INFORMATION A PERSON CAN IS ADVANTAGEOUS IN SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH, BUSINESS AND THE ACADEMIC WORLD. CONTRARY TO THIS, THERE ARE OTHERS WHO THINKS THAT CERTAIN INFORMATION IS HIGHLY NECESSARY OR PRECIOUS TO BE MADE PUBLIC. THE FOLLOWING ESSAY WILL THROW SOME LIGHT ON BOTH PERSPECTIVES AND WILL BE FOLLOWED BY AN UNBIASED OPINION.
THE THOUGHT OF MAKING ALL INFORMATION PUBLIC IS A VERY IMPORTANT PART OF ANY KIND ADVANCEMENT IN THE WORLD, AS VARIED OPINIONS CAN HELP IMPROVING THE IDEA SIGNIFICANTLY THAN A PERSON OR A GROUP OF PEOPLE DO ALONE. ONE CAN TAKE EXAMPLE OF OF SCIENTISTS TRYING TO PROVE THE OTHER WRONG BY PERFORMING THE SAME CHEMICAL REACTION, BUT THEY FOUND OUT THE BOTH WERE RIGHT ALL ALONG AND THEY DISCOVERED THAT EVEN THOUGH THE COMPOUND IS MADE OF SAME ELEMENTS IN SAME PROPORTIONS, THERE CAN BE VARIED RESULTS DUE TO POSITIONING OF ELEMENTS, WHICH HAS BEEN A GREAT DISCOVERY AS IT LATER HELPED ADVANCEMENT IN MEDICINE. GIVING THE IMPRESSION THAT SHARING EVERY PIECE OF INFORMATION IS THR RIGHT THING TO DO.
WHILE THE OPINION THAT SOME INFORMATION IS TOO IMPORTANT OR TOO VALUABLE TO BE SHARED FREELY CANNOT BE DENIED EITHER. THE FACT THAT EVEN AFTER KNOWING THAT NUCLEUR ENERGY IS ONE OF THE CLEANEST SOURCE TO PRODUCE ELECTRICITY, THEN ALSO THE INFORMATION TO DO NUCLEUR FISSION IS NOT SHARED TO MANY COUNTRIES LET ALONE MADE PUBLIC. THE ONLY REASON IS THAT ONCE IT IS KNOWN, IT CAN BECOME DEVASTATING IF FALLEN INTO THE WRONG HANDS, AND ITS MASSIVE SCALE OF TERROR AND DESTRUCTION IS ALREADY KNOWN TO PEOPLE THROUGH HISTORICAL EVENTS SUCH AS WORLD WAR 2 AND CHERNOBYL REACTOR. THUS MAKING SHARING OF ALL INFORMATION QUITE A RISK.
FROM THE STATED FACTS, IT IS EVIDENT THAT SHARING ALL INFORMATION IS NOT CERTAIN TO BECOME A BOON OR A BANE, IT DEPENDS ON THE TYPE OF THE INFORMATION, WHETHER SHARING IT CAN LEAD TO BETTER RESULTS OR A CHAOTIC END.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The essay addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both perspectives and providing a personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the benefits of collaborative research and the security risks associated with nuclear technology. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The example regarding chemical reactions is vague and lacks clarity, making it difficult to follow the logic. The conclusion is brief and could have been more explicitly linked to the personal opinion requested in the prompt. To improve, ensure that each supporting example is clearly explained and directly tied to the main argument.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a general progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as the transition 'Giving the impression that...' at the end of the second paragraph, which is a sentence fragment. Referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect ideas more fluidly rather than relying on simple transitions.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'advantageous' and 'devising', but the range is somewhat limited. Some word choices are slightly imprecise or repetitive, such as 'important' and 'information'. There are also minor errors in collocation, such as 'throwing some light on' (usually 'shed light on') and 'cleanest source to produce' (should be 'cleanest sources for producing'). Expanding your range of academic collocations would help elevate the score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('others who thinks') and awkward phrasing ('the information to do nuclear fission is not shared to many countries'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some issues with sentence boundaries, specifically the use of sentence fragments. While the meaning is usually clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and avoiding sentence fragments will improve accuracy.
