Student answer (Band 5.0)
Few people believe that it is good to share as much information as possible in different purposes like in scientific research or business and the academic world. Other believe few information is very important to be shared freely. I will discuss both and at the end tell my opinion.
To commence with, some people says it is too important we are share our ideas in different purposes like scientific research, business and other. To explain, people think our ideas are very important so we do not waste in useless works. We use our ideas in good works. For example, we use our ideas in his business and grow our business like my friend owns a butcher shop and his business if he tell our ideas freely

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 126 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the prompt asks for a discussion of both views and an opinion, the essay is incomplete; it introduces the topic but fails to provide a balanced discussion or a clear, supported opinion. The example provided regarding a 'butcher shop' is underdeveloped and does not effectively address the complexities of information sharing in scientific or academic contexts. Due to the severe under-length and lack of task completion, the response cannot be awarded a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay attempts to use basic cohesive devices such as 'To commence with' and 'To explain', but the logical flow is disrupted by the incomplete nature of the sentences and the abrupt ending. Paragraphing is present, but the content within the paragraphs lacks a clear progression of ideas. The referencing is often unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the argument about the butcher shop fails to connect logically to the broader theme of scientific or academic information sharing. The overall structure is mechanical and fails to guide the reader through a coherent argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. Phrases such as 'different purposes', 'important', and 'good works' are used repeatedly, indicating a lack of range. There are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'few people believe' (likely intended as 'some people') and 'if he tell our ideas freely'. The vocabulary used is insufficient to discuss the complex topic of intellectual property or scientific collaboration, and the limited range makes it difficult for the writer to express nuanced ideas effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response relies on simple sentence structures, and even these contain frequent errors. There are significant issues with subject-verb agreement ('some people says'), tense usage, and sentence fragments ('his business if he tell our ideas freely'). The lack of complex structures limits the grammatical range. While the meaning is generally discernible, the frequency of errors is high, and the grammatical control is weak, which consistently impedes the flow of the writing.
