Student answer (Band 5.0)

There worth of knowledge is not hidden from anyone nowadays. If you want to succeed in your life, then it is vital to gain information from as many sources as you can. As teachers, professors and heads, you have to share your knowledge and it is beneficial for the other people. It is believed that sharing information is a humble act towards your brothers and sisters.

However, as the the world has become competitive, people fear to share the information they have. The fear, that the next person might have the ability to perform the task in a better way. The competition has rose significantly over the years. The fear of being replaced forces others to keep all the important information to themselves. Whether it's about academic, scientific or professional life, people find it better not to share their knowledge with the citizens. Talking about professional life, we witness how businessmen are concerned about the information of their company. They also take numerous security measures to ensure that there is no way for the data to get leak, into the hands of his competitors.

For instance, one of my friend helped me in preparing for my math exam. Though it was a challenging one, still I managed to outscore him, and because of it, he got furious and never agreed to help me again.

In conclusion, it is generally believed that we should help the ones who wants to learn, but sometimes it is vital to keep the important information and not let anyone get to know about it.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument, but the development is limited. While you mention the benefits of sharing and the reasons for secrecy, the ideas are somewhat superficial. For example, the personal anecdote about the math exam is a bit narrow for an academic essay and does not fully explore the broader implications of scientific or business information sharing. To improve, ensure that your arguments are more thoroughly extended with clear reasoning and more relevant, professional examples. Your position is clear, but the overall depth of the discussion needs to be increased to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally repetitive. Transitions between ideas are sometimes abrupt, such as the shift from the general discussion to the personal example. The logical progression is present but could be smoother. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that connects back to the main prompt. Referencing could also be more precise to avoid ambiguity.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task but lacks the sophistication and precision required for higher bands. There are some awkward phrasings, such as 'There worth of knowledge' (should be 'The worth') and 'get leak' (should be 'leak'). You rely on fairly common vocabulary, and there is little evidence of less common lexical items or idiomatic expressions. To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and pay closer attention to word forms and collocations to ensure your writing sounds more natural and professional.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There is a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. You have several grammatical errors, such as 'The competition has rose' (should be 'risen'), 'as the the world' (repetition), and 'the ones who wants' (should be 'want'). These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable, though they do not completely impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct verb tenses, and proofreading for minor slips like repeated words or incorrect articles. Increasing your control over complex sentence structures will also help improve your score.
