Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is undeniable that getting information about different research is becoming a pensive concern in the modern economy. In this regard, some people believe that it is good to share as much information as possible in scientific research, business, and the academic world, while others argue that some information is too important or too valuable to be shared freely. This essay will outline not only both perspectives but also my opinion, which is in favor of the former point of view in forthcoming fragments with a logical conclusion.
To commence with, sharing information freely can bring many benefits to society. The prime one is that open access to information about scientific purposes allows researchers from different countries to work together and develop new technologies or medicines more quickly. To elaborate, knowing about different chemicals and technologies helps them to work appropriately, which directly leads to the betterment of the economy. Secondly, students and teachers can improve the quality of education by using research papers and educational resources that are available online. To explain it, this knowledge helps to encourage innovation, improve learning opportunities, and help to solve global problems, as getting information about different research helps to collaborate with other nations. To illustrate it, during the COVID-19 pandemic, scientists around the world shared research findings, which helped speed up vaccines to cure the disease easily.
However, some information is too valuable or sensitive that ought to be avoided to share it publicly. First and foremost, large businessmen spend a great deal of time and money in developing new products. If they shared ideas freely with other people, it would allow competitors to copy them, which would negatively affect their business. Moreover, governments must keep information confidential to protect national security and for public safety, while some misused research information when it went into the wrong hands.
To conclude, although there are several reasons in favor of the latter point of view, such as allowing competitors to copy their ideas and protecting national security and public safety, according to me, it is good to share as much information as possible in scientific research, business, and the academic world.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both sides of the argument and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, particularly the example of the COVID-19 vaccine, which effectively supports the argument for open access. However, the development of the opposing view is slightly less detailed. While the points about business competition and national security are valid, they could be expanded with more specific examples to reach a higher band. The position is consistent throughout, and the conclusion successfully synthesizes the arguments while restating the writer's stance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two viewpoints. Cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Secondly', 'However', and 'To conclude' are used to guide the reader through the argument. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive in their structure (e.g., 'To elaborate', 'To explain it', 'To illustrate it'). Improving the variety of linking phrases would enhance the overall cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'pensive concern' (though this is a slight misuse of 'pensive', which usually refers to deep thought) and 'confidential'. Some phrasing is slightly unnatural, such as 'getting information about different research' or 'large businessmen'. To improve, the student should focus on more precise collocations and academic terminology to better suit the formal tone of an IELTS essay.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'ought to be avoided to share it publicly' (should be 'sharing it publicly should be avoided') and 'some misused research information when it went into the wrong hands'. While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. The control of punctuation is generally good, and the sentence variety is sufficient to convey the intended meaning. More attention to verb patterns and passive voice construction would help elevate the accuracy.
