Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the essay is significantly under the 250-word minimum requirement, which limits the depth of development. While the ideas are relevant, they are somewhat brief and lack the necessary elaboration to fully explore the complexities of the topic. For instance, the point about drug formulas is a good example, but it is not expanded upon sufficiently to demonstrate a high level of critical thinking. To improve, you must expand your arguments with more detailed explanations and examples to meet the length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'However', which help guide the reader through the argument. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. The referencing is generally clear, but the overall structure feels a bit repetitive due to the brevity of the content. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that ideas are connected more fluidly would enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range expected at higher bands. There are some awkward collocations, such as 'generious amout of knowledge' (should be 'generous amount') and 'financial encourage' (should be 'financial incentive'). Additionally, there are minor spelling errors like 'prerspectives'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more sophisticated vocabulary and ensure that your word choices are accurate and contextually appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Examples include 'it is very beneficial to share generious amout of knowledge would help' (incorrect sentence structure) and 'sharing sensitive research... undergoes intellectual property rights' (incorrect verb usage). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but there are some issues with spacing and phrasing. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and refining complex sentence construction will help improve your accuracy and range.
