Student answer (Band 5.5)

There is a wide believe that people should keep their knowledge to themself while on the other hand some people think knowledge should be shared with the other people so all of them can progress together. In this paragraph I will give u my view why I partially Agree and Disagree to the fact that we should not give any knowledge to others.

If we see the pattern of innovation in ancient time, there were so many innovation which were very shady for like who were the roots or who were the person who invented or proposed the solution. This happened because back in the time there were no proof keeping that the innovation were yours. A very famous example of Thomas Eddison a well know scientist but there are many humors that he didn't invented the light bulb it was someone from his team. He stole the invention from him

While if we see the other side of the page, In the year 2020 whole Globe faces a deadly virus Corona , so all the leading pharmaceuticals company were researching for the cure of this Epidemic. many of them eventually find the solution and shared it with others of course at price but they didn't kept it to themself. So many a times for the Well being of society the solutions to the greater problem should be made public.

In conclusion I would like to say that If you are working on a new think like a scientific breakthrough or something like revolution in AI , you should keep the information to yourself. While on the other hand for the greater problem which everyone is facing and lifes are on stake that's when you should share your research for the benefits of human kind.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. The example of Thomas Edison is relevant but lacks depth in explaining why information should be kept private, focusing more on historical hearsay. The second example regarding the COVID-19 vaccine is better developed but could have been linked more explicitly to the broader concept of intellectual property versus public good. The position is clear, but the supporting arguments would benefit from more detailed analysis to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally awkward, such as 'While if we see the other side of the page'. Transitions between sentences are sometimes abrupt, and the referencing is occasionally unclear. While the overall progression of ideas is logical, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the repetitive structure of the opening and closing sentences limit the flow of the essay.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks range and precision. There are several informal expressions ('u', 'shady', 'humors' instead of 'rumours', 'new think') and minor errors in word choice that occasionally impede the academic tone. The student relies on basic vocabulary and struggles with collocations, such as 'proof keeping' instead of 'documentation' or 'record-keeping'. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise academic terminology and avoiding informal, conversational language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('there were so many innovation'), incorrect verb forms ('didn't invented'), and punctuation errors. While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. The student needs to focus on consistent verb tense usage and correct pluralisation to improve accuracy.
