Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both sides of the argument, but the development of ideas is limited and often lacks focus. While you mention the importance of sharing information and the value of keeping it private, the arguments are somewhat repetitive and do not fully explore the implications in the contexts of scientific research or business. For instance, the paragraph regarding business focuses more on the general importance of business to GDP rather than the specific debate about information sharing. To improve, ensure each paragraph directly supports the prompt's core tension between transparency and intellectual property/security.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is often weak. The use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'A few individuals state' or 'Others state'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the transition between ideas within paragraphs is disjointed. For example, the jump from discussing business to mentioning AI platforms like 'Gemini' lacks a clear logical link. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring each sentence flows naturally from the previous one would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. You rely on basic terms like 'good', 'important', and 'valuable' repeatedly. There are some attempts at more specific vocabulary, but these are often used in ways that are slightly unnatural or imprecise, such as 'grasping clear concepts' or 'information is needed for life long'. To reach a higher band, focus on using more sophisticated collocations and synonyms to avoid repetition and to express your ideas with greater nuance.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'every information contain'), article usage, and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'valuable than anything'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like pluralisation and the correct use of comparative adjectives. Increasing the variety of complex structures while maintaining accuracy will also help raise your score.
