Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While the example regarding the gas shortage in Nepal is relevant, the explanation of the first viewpoint (transparency in government) is quite vague and lacks specific, well-developed supporting evidence. The essay covers all parts of the prompt, but the arguments remain at a surface level, preventing it from reaching a higher band. To improve, ensure that each body paragraph contains a more detailed explanation of the 'why' and 'how' behind the arguments presented.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'the moment after that is dangerous'. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, and some sentences lack smooth flow due to grammatical issues. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be strengthened by using a wider variety of linking words and better sentence-to-sentence connectivity.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. There are several instances of awkward word choices and non-standard collocations, such as 'are believe', 'get know about', and 'openly the information'. The student relies on basic vocabulary and struggles with word forms (e.g., 'educationally graduated' instead of 'educated'). While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of sophisticated or topic-specific vocabulary limits the score. To improve, focus on learning collocations related to academic and business contexts and pay closer attention to word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('citizens wants', 'most of the people... are believing'), incorrect verb forms ('are believe', 'risky to shared'), and missing articles or prepositions. These errors are persistent and occasionally make the text difficult to read, although they do not completely impede communication. To reach a higher band, the student needs to focus on basic sentence construction, specifically ensuring that verbs are correctly conjugated and that sentence structures are grammatically sound.
