Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response is significantly under the required word count of 250 words, reaching only 105 words. Because the essay is incomplete and stops mid-sentence, the task is only partially addressed. The introduction attempts to outline the two views, but the body paragraph is cut off before any meaningful development or support can be provided. To improve, you must ensure you complete the essay by providing full arguments for both sides and a clear conclusion, while meeting the minimum length requirement to allow for sufficient development of your ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay shows an attempt at logical organization by using an introductory paragraph and starting a body paragraph with 'On the first hand'. However, because the text is incomplete, there is no overall progression of ideas. The paragraphing is insufficient, and the abrupt ending prevents the use of cohesive devices to link arguments or conclude the essay. To improve, focus on structuring your essay with a clear introduction, two distinct body paragraphs with supporting examples, and a concluding summary, ensuring each paragraph flows logically into the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, such as the repeated use of 'good', 'important', and 'valuable'. There are also errors in word choice, such as 'Few people argue' when the context suggests 'Some people argue'. The range of vocabulary is limited, which restricts your ability to express complex ideas about scientific or business research. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'transparency', 'intellectual property', or 'commercial viability', and avoid repeating the same adjectives throughout your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains several grammatical errors, including 'some other believe' (should be 'others believe') and 'how some information is too essential... to be share freely' (should be 'shared'). There is also a repetition error in 'both both these views'. The sentence structures are simple, and the lack of completion makes it difficult to assess your ability to use a wide range of complex structures. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and correct verb forms, and practice constructing more complex sentences using subordinating conjunctions to link your ideas.
