Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both sides of the argument, but the development is limited. While you mention the benefits of sharing information for scientists and learners, the arguments are repetitive and lack specific, well-developed examples. For instance, the example about scientists 'struct in something' is vague and does not clearly illustrate the tension between open access and proprietary value. The conclusion is also quite brief and does not fully synthesize the points made. To improve, ensure each body paragraph explores a distinct idea with a concrete, real-world example, and maintain a consistent position throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the progression of ideas is often disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inaccurate, such as the repetitive use of 'and also' and 'for example'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the logical flow. For example, the transition between the introduction and the first body paragraph is abrupt. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'conversely') and ensure that each sentence logically follows the previous one.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'good', 'helpful', and 'information'. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'sharing information Fastly' and 'scientists struct in something'. These errors occasionally impede the clarity of your message. To improve, you should aim to use more precise academic vocabulary and collocations. Expanding your range of synonyms and learning how to use them in the correct context will significantly enhance your score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay relies mostly on simple sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('some research's'), article usage ('in field of'), and sentence fragments ('but so sad for that that they demand for money'). These errors are frequent and sometimes make the meaning difficult to grasp. To improve, you need to practice constructing more complex sentences using subordinate clauses and ensure you proofread for basic grammatical accuracy, particularly with verb tenses and prepositions. Focusing on sentence variety will also help you demonstrate a wider range of grammatical control.
