Student answer (Band 6.0)
The current era is an era of information. Many people opine to freely share information regarding science and research, businesses and the academics. While other hold the view that some information should be confidential. I agree with the former view and this essay will discuss the same with relevant examples.
To begin with, individuals should be well-informed about various aspects of science, business firms and education. People especially young children should be taught the ways of conducting independent research regarding science and other aspects of academics. Their curriculum in schools should include not only history and geography, but the latest scientific inventions done around the world. In this way they can easily keep up with the changing world and technologies. Also, business schools should teach their students, how to become dynamic entrepreneurs, by teaching them several business case studies. This can only happen if businesses share their past experiences and resources with them. For example, Harvard and Cambridge universities teach practical management theories to their students by including real-life business case studies.
On the other hand, sharing confidential and sensitive information can be detrimental for a nation. For example, military armory's information cannot be shared casually because enemy nations can use such information against the nation. Moreover, sharing the information about a product which is still in development phase can lead to further patent and copyright issues. Many business groups got bankrupted as their clients data got leaked, and competitors took the advantage of the same.
In conclusion, people need to strike a balance between sharing useful and educational information and sharing confidential and sensitive information.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The essay addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both sides of the argument and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the mention of military security and academic case studies. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The argument regarding the benefits of sharing information is well-supported with examples like Harvard and Cambridge, but the counter-argument regarding risks could be more deeply explored. While the position is clear, the conclusion is a bit abrupt and does not fully synthesize the arguments presented. Overall, the response is relevant and addresses the task requirements effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two opposing views. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'On the other hand', and 'Moreover' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. The referencing is generally clear, though some sentences are quite short, which limits the complexity of the logical progression. Overall, the structure is coherent and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'detrimental', 'dynamic entrepreneurs', and 'confidential'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'military armory's information' (should be 'military intelligence' or 'classified military data') and 'patent and copyright issues' (which is slightly imprecise in the context of product development). The range is sufficient to convey meaning, but more precise academic terminology would elevate the score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'Many people opine to freely share' (should be 'opine that information should be shared'), 'inventions done around the world' (should be 'inventions made'), and 'Many business groups got bankrupted' (should be 'went bankrupt'). Punctuation is generally correct, but there are some awkward phrasings that slightly hinder the flow. While the errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher band score. A greater variety of error-free complex structures is needed.
