Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument, but the development is significantly underdeveloped. The introduction is confusing and fails to clearly outline the two opposing views. The examples provided, such as the tech audit and the coffee shop, are anecdotal and lack the depth required for an academic essay. The prompt asks for a discussion on scientific research, business, and the academic world, but the response focuses on narrow, specific scenarios that do not fully explore the broader implications of information sharing versus confidentiality. The conclusion is abrupt and does not clearly state your own opinion as requested by the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. Transitions between ideas are often missing or mechanical, such as 'Secondly, moving on to the second part'. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the argument. For instance, the transition from the tech audit example to the conclusion is abrupt. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes inaccurate, which hinders the flow of the text. Better use of linking words and clearer topic sentences would significantly improve the structure.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. While there is an attempt to use more sophisticated language like 'conspicuous' and 'colossal', these are often used in contexts that feel unnatural or slightly inaccurate. There are also issues with word choice, such as 'no one was aware about that' instead of 'aware of' and 'new sheaf' instead of 'new chef'. The range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey basic meaning, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher band scores.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'There are number of arguments' (missing article), 'authorized person starts investigating check' (incorrect verb form), and 'I am in the favor of' (incorrect preposition). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some run-on sentences and missing commas. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents the essay from reaching a higher band.
