Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 186 words. Furthermore, the essay is incomplete, ending abruptly in the conclusion without finishing the final sentence. While the prompt asks for a discussion of both views and an opinion, the development of ideas is severely limited due to the length. The arguments provided are superficial and lack sufficient supporting evidence or examples. The position is stated but not adequately sustained throughout the response. To improve, you must ensure you complete the essay and provide fully developed paragraphs with clear, logical support for each viewpoint.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay uses basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand' to signal structure. However, the logical progression is interrupted by the incomplete nature of the text. Paragraphing is attempted, but the final paragraph is essentially non-existent. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the opening sentence where the connection between 'altruistic and egocentric mind-sets' and the topic is not well-integrated. The lack of a completed conclusion significantly impacts the overall coherence of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally repetitive and limited. Phrases like 'some masses' and 'some thinks' are used incorrectly or are stylistically inappropriate. There is an attempt to use academic vocabulary such as 'altruistic', 'egocentric', and 'intellectual theft', but these are not always used with precision. The range is insufficient to express complex ideas effectively. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using a wider variety of topic-specific vocabulary and ensuring that words are used in their correct collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. For example, 'few populace thinks' is grammatically incorrect, as is 'some thinks'. The sentence structure is often simplistic, and there are issues with subject-verb agreement and article usage. While there is an attempt to use complex structures, they are often marred by errors, such as 'the main reason why some masses favor the former statement because...'. These errors occasionally impede the flow of the text, though the meaning is generally understandable.
