Student answer (Band 6.0)
In today's fact paced world with internet information regarding any topic can be shared can be read by anyone in different parts of the globe, due to this reason many people believe that not every bit of information should be available to the public since some information is too valuable to be shared. While others argue that everyone has a right to know what's happening in the world or even their own country. I believe that releasing information publicly can benefit many people.
Scientific research has allowed many people to know about the existence of different planets and galaxies and a deep understanding of how the universe was created, while some research so that those kind of research doesn't end up in someone's hand with the wrong intentions such as nuclear weapons are kept hidden which can destroy multiple countries. Another example would that businesses deliberately try to hide their losses so that they don't look weak in front of their competitions or a recipe which would destroy their business if that got released to the public, for example how KFC hides their original recipe so that it can't be replicated by other brands and only a handful of high executive have access to that recipe. Many people don't tell how they were able to score high grades in school since they believe that if they helped someone else they can perform better than themselves and overtake them.
On the other hand, if a scientific research which can benefit millions of people or the planet and can be accessed publicly then scientists all around the world can work on that, such as nuclear energy it is one of the renewable sources of energy and can help countries with a higher power consumption ensure to keep up with the demand with minimum damage to the planet. Moreover, if businesses start to show what they did wrong it can help other businesses to correct themselves so that they can stay profitable and provide employment. In the academic world, student with high grades can help students who are struggling by providing them with resources or methods that they tried.
In conclusion, I believe that the benefits do not outweighs the drawbacks of releasing valuable information as it can benefits millions of people and someone with the wrong intentions can get access to that information anyways.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both sides of the argument and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the mention of nuclear energy and business trade secrets. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat uneven. For instance, the paragraph regarding business secrets is a bit disjointed, jumping between KFC and academic grades. While the position is clear, the supporting arguments could be more thoroughly extended to reach a higher band. The conclusion is slightly confusing, as the phrasing 'benefits do not outweighs the drawbacks' contradicts the earlier stated opinion that releasing information is beneficial.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the other hand' and 'Moreover', to link arguments. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'due to this reason' in the introduction. The referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the sentence structure makes it difficult to follow the link between scientific research and nuclear weapons. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate, but the flow between sentences could be smoother to improve the logical progression.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'renewable sources', 'replicated', and 'high power consumption'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'fact paced' (fast-paced) and 'those kind of research'. The repetition of words like 'information' and 'people' suggests a need for a wider range of synonyms to demonstrate more sophisticated control over lexical resources.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('student with high grades can help', 'benefits do not outweighs') and punctuation errors. Some sentences are run-on or lack necessary articles, which affects the overall accuracy. While the writer attempts complex structures, they are not always error-free. To improve, the student should focus on proofreading for basic grammatical consistency and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed with greater precision.
