Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a personal opinion, but it is incomplete. The essay ends abruptly in the middle of the conclusion, failing to provide a final summary or a fully developed closing thought. Additionally, the response is under the 250-word minimum requirement, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the main points regarding the benefits of sharing and the necessity of confidentiality are relevant, they lack sufficient depth and supporting evidence due to the truncated nature of the text. To improve, ensure all parts of the prompt are fully addressed and the essay is completed within the word count.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay uses basic paragraphing to separate the two viewpoints, which provides a logical structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally awkward, such as 'From one stand point' and 'From an alternative stand point'. The flow of ideas is interrupted by the incomplete conclusion, which leaves the reader without a sense of closure. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the transition between sentences could be smoother. To achieve a higher score, focus on using a wider range of linking words more naturally and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, fully developed conclusion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward word choices and collocations, such as 'is beneficial to exchanging' instead of 'is beneficial to exchange' and 'really impact of international'. Spelling errors are also present, including 'sesitive', 'artifical', 'intellegence', and 'severse'. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'patent protection' and 'competitive edge', the overall control is inconsistent. Expanding your vocabulary to include more academic collocations and proofreading for spelling accuracy will help improve this score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Examples include 'Others claims that' (subject-verb agreement), 'peoples are increasingly concerned sharing' (incorrect preposition/verb form), and 'students are deeply wants to study' (incorrect verb construction). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some sentences containing unnecessary commas or missing terminal punctuation. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence structure prevents a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct verb forms is essential.
