Many people in our surroundings are hand to mouth and do not have basic facilities like smartphone and internet, so they remain unaware of the chances that they might get to improve their living standards. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a personal opinion, though the conclusion is incomplete, cutting off mid-sentence. The word count is 244, which falls below the 250-word minimum requirement, resulting in a penalty. While the ideas are relevant, the development is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding digital devices and government levies is a bit tangential to the core topic of information sharing in research and business. To improve, ensure all parts of the prompt are fully explored and that the essay reaches the required length to allow for a more comprehensive discussion of the complexities involved in information transparency versus confidentiality.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'To begins with', 'On the contrary'). There are also issues with referencing and sentence flow; for example, the transition between the benefits of sharing and the government's role in digital accessibility is abrupt. The conclusion is unfinished, which negatively impacts the overall coherence of the piece. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph flows logically into the next with more sophisticated transitions.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'convey maximum information' instead of 'share information' and 'people in our surroundings are hand to mouth'. The term 'public masses' is also slightly unnatural in this context. While the meaning is clear, the lack of variety and occasional inaccuracies in collocation limit the score. To improve, try to incorporate more academic collocations and precise terminology related to the fields of research and business.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Examples include 'some has opinion that it is some data', 'To begins with', and 'may could harmfully affect'. Subject-verb agreement and article usage are inconsistent throughout the text. While the errors do not completely obscure the meaning, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, particularly with verb tenses, modal verbs, and article usage, and aim to construct more complex sentences with greater control.
