Student answer (Band 6.0)
Many individuals think that it is better to share as much information as possible in scientific research, business and the academic world. Some believe that many information is too important or too valuable to be shared freely. I am in the favour in the second notion and i will discuss both these views in the upcoming paragraphs.
On the one hand, sharing information can provide significant benefits to society. In scientific research, the free exchange of knowledge allows researchers from different countries and institutions to build on one another’s discoveries. This can prevent unnecessary duplication of research and help scientists find solutions to major problems more quickly. For example, when researchers share data about diseases, scientists can cooperate to develop new treatments and vaccines more efficiently.
On the other hand, there are situations in which information should not be shared freely. Businesses often invest large amounts of money in developing new technologies, products and marketing strategies. If competitors could immediately access this information, companies might lose their competitive advantage and have little incentive to invest in research and development. For example, a company that develops a new technology may need to keep its design confidential until it is properly protected by a patent.
In conclusion, although freely sharing information can accelerate scientific progress, education and innovation, some information is too sensitive or valuable to be disclosed publicly. The best approach is therefore to promote openness while protecting information when sharing it could harm individuals, organisations or society.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
You have addressed both sides of the argument and provided a clear personal opinion. However, the response is slightly under the 250-word minimum, which is a negative factor in Task Achievement. While your ideas are relevant and well-supported with examples like medical research and business patents, the brevity limits the depth of your analysis. To reach a higher band, ensure you expand on your arguments with more detailed explanations or additional examples to comfortably exceed the word count. Your position is consistent throughout, but the development of the 'academic world' aspect mentioned in the prompt could have been more explicit.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use transition signals effectively, such as 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand,' which help guide the reader through your argument. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. However, the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of cohesive devices to link sentences within paragraphs, as some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'duplication,' 'competitive advantage,' and 'disclosed.' There is a minor error in word choice: 'many information' should be 'much information' as information is an uncountable noun. Additionally, 'in the favour in' should be 'in favour of.' While you attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary, the range is somewhat limited. To improve, try incorporating more sophisticated collocations and less common lexical items to demonstrate a higher level of precision and flexibility.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'If competitors could immediately access this information, companies might lose their competitive advantage.' Your control of grammar is generally good, and errors do not impede communication. However, there are a few slips, such as the aforementioned 'many information' and the preposition error 'in the favour in.' To achieve a higher band, aim for a greater variety of complex structures and ensure consistent accuracy in subject-verb agreement and preposition usage. The majority of your sentences are clear and grammatically sound.
