Student answer (Band 5.5)

Some people believe that sharing information as much as possible in scientific inquiry, business and the academic world. But others believe that to share some important information freely is not a good approach at all.

In this modern era of scientific studies, it is good to share information about different research ideas and exploration of new things with other people which certainly enhance their knowledge. But some people believe that sharing valuable information during scientific studies is not preferable at all because it can effect the results of the studies as well as individuals can misuse this information and they have to face some adverse outcomes.

From my perspective, to share some valuable information by the researchers in scientific community is a positive approach because it helps them to collect more information and data for their research. For example a research performed by Gregor Mendel on breeding of pea plant was further extended by some other scientists who exhibits a number of experiments to provide best hybrid plants with different reproductive strategies. so ,it will definitely broad the scientific studies and also beneficial for better varieties of new species of plants.

On the other hand, more preferably I want to discuss other perspective of this approach that sharing valuable information with public other than scientific community can cause negative consequences because people wants to explore new ideas by using the incomplete information which can be harmful for them. Either the information should share after the completion of any experiments or collection of complete date which will be less worse than before.

In conclusion, sharing information during scientific studies by the scientific community is more beneficial than with local public because there is threat of using this information for meaningless purposes which can cause detrimental effects on both the individuals and environment.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a personal opinion, meeting the basic requirements of the task. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While the example of Gregor Mendel is relevant, the explanation of the 'negative consequences' of sharing information is vague and lacks specific examples. The position is clear, but the arguments could be more thoroughly extended to reach a higher band. The essay covers the prompt's requirements, but the analysis remains at a surface level, particularly regarding the business and academic aspects mentioned in the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as the transition 'On the other hand, more preferably I want to discuss'. Additionally, some sentences are disjointed, and the referencing is occasionally unclear. While the paragraphing is sufficient, the flow between sentences could be improved to make the argument feel more cohesive and less like a series of separate points.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'effect the results' (should be 'affect') and 'less worse than before', which is non-standard. The range is somewhat repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'good' and 'bad'. To improve, you should aim to use more precise academic collocations and avoid informal phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader's flow. Examples include 'sharing information as much as possible in scientific inquiry... [is good]' (missing a main verb in the first sentence), 'they have to face some adverse outcomes' (unclear pronoun reference), and 'so ,it will definitely broad' (should be 'broaden'). Punctuation errors, such as the space before the comma in 'so ,it', are also present. These errors are noticeable but do not completely obscure the meaning.
