Student answer (Band 5.5)

Some individuals consider that it is beneficial to disclose as much information as plausible in scientific research , business and the academic community while other assume that some information is too invaluable to be publicly accessible. Sharing information has positive effect but not in every setting . This essay will discuss both perspectives in details before presenting my own opinion .

The reason why some people decisively suppose that it is advantageable to share information is because it let them think more about the details and help them to generate new ideas so they can consider more plan in critical way. For instance , if a business man don't share about the strategies he made with other colleague it will not work for him as well because he lacks team work. here sharing information is hell important likewise in scientific research and in higher education sectors.

On the other hand , some human being are convinced to not share everything with everyone as they thought that it might let them face more consequences . for instance , if a person is working in cyber security company and he is not allowed to share information share about the technique they use for their security and he tell some other people it will harm the whole company and he will surely lose his job for this action .

In conclusion , while both perspective have reasonable arguments , I believe that people should learn when and where to share openly and where they should avoid being opened up with people.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited. For example, the argument regarding business strategies is vague and lacks depth, and the example regarding cyber security is somewhat simplistic. The essay touches on the required areas (science, business, academia) but does not explore the nuances of why information might be 'too valuable' to share, such as intellectual property rights or national security, beyond a basic mention of job loss. To reach a higher band, you need to extend your arguments with more specific explanations and clearer logical links to the prompt's themes.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive feature. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive. Phrases like 'The reason why some people decisively suppose' and 'On the other hand' are used, but the internal flow within paragraphs is sometimes disjointed. For instance, the transition between the general idea of sharing and the specific example of a businessman is abrupt. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the logical progression of ideas is somewhat simplistic. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring each sentence flows naturally from the previous one will help improve your score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and sophistication. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'advantageable' (not a standard word), 'plausible' (used incorrectly in context), and 'hell important' (too informal for an academic essay). You rely on basic vocabulary, and there is little attempt to use less common lexical items or idiomatic collocations. To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensure that your word choices are appropriate for a formal register. Avoid informal intensifiers like 'hell'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('some human being are', 'he don't share'), incorrect verb forms ('he tell some other people'), and punctuation errors. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors is high. You should focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring consistent tense usage. Increasing the variety of complex structures while maintaining accuracy is essential for moving into the higher bands.
