Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is widely believed by some individuals that we should share as much information as possible for scientific researches, business or academic world. It may for sure depend on the individual whether they want to share the information or not. While on the other hand, a few individuals think that it may be dangerous to be sharing some valuable information and that we should be very cautious about that.

However, from my perspective, I think that if the information may be very much helpful for or researchers or the business owners or even for our academic world I would concur to share the information but with proper care. Sharing this information that we have may be able to resolve some issues as well.

But, if I think that this may cause even a but of issue for the world or the individuals I would prefer to not share it with anyone. However, it is very essential to gather some relevant information about the individual or the company you may be sharing the information with because it may make a lot of changes in our thinking to whether what to share and what not.

For example, if we have a very crucial information and we share it to some academic researcher, then there might be high chances of success related to the provided data, but if it may be failed then it can also cause issues.

Therefore, it can be concluded that it may depend on each individual's point of view of how they think the consequences of the provided data me be.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a personal opinion, meeting the basic requirements of the task. However, the development of ideas is limited and lacks depth. The arguments provided are quite generic and repetitive, such as the mention of 'issues' without specifying what those issues might be in a scientific or business context. The example provided regarding an 'academic researcher' is vague and does not clearly illustrate the tension between transparency and confidentiality. To achieve a higher band, you need to provide more specific, concrete examples and expand on the reasoning behind why information should or should not be shared.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the progression of ideas is somewhat mechanical. The use of cohesive devices is limited and occasionally repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'However' and 'if'. Some transitions between sentences feel abrupt, and the logical flow within paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect ideas more fluidly. The conclusion is also quite brief and does not effectively summarise the main points discussed in the body paragraphs.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'very much helpful', 'a lot of changes', and 'some issues' are imprecise and lack the academic tone required for this task. There is little evidence of less common lexical items or collocations. To improve, you should focus on using more precise academic vocabulary, such as 'proprietary information', 'intellectual property', 'transparency', or 'collaborative research', which would better suit the topic of scientific and business information sharing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. For instance, 'scientific researches' is incorrect as 'research' is an uncountable noun. There are also issues with word order and preposition usage, such as 'share it to some academic researcher' (should be 'with'). While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. You should focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct usage of articles and prepositions.
