Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response is significantly under the required word count of 250 words, reaching only 107 words. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. While the introduction acknowledges both sides of the argument, the essay stops abruptly after only one body paragraph. The prompt requires a discussion of both views and the expression of a personal opinion; however, the second view and the conclusion are entirely missing. Because the response is incomplete and fails to develop the required arguments, it cannot be awarded a higher band. To improve, you must ensure you provide a full essay structure including a balanced discussion of both perspectives and a clear personal stance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response shows a basic attempt at logical organization. The introduction sets up the essay, and the first body paragraph uses a clear transition ('On the one hand') to introduce a point. However, because the essay is incomplete, there is no overall progression or conclusion. Cohesive devices are used in a limited way, and the lack of a full structure prevents the development of a coherent argument. To improve, focus on planning your essay to ensure all parts of the prompt are covered, and use a wider range of linking words to connect your ideas more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is generally appropriate for the topic, with terms like 'valuable resources,' 'global health emergencies,' and 'innovations.' However, the range is limited due to the brevity of the text. There are some minor errors, such as 'information is should be shared,' which indicates a lack of precision. To reach a higher band, you should aim to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary and collocations related to the fields of science and business, and ensure that your word choices are consistently accurate throughout a longer, more developed piece of writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains several grammatical errors that affect the quality of the writing. For example, 'information is should be shared' is a clear error in verb structure, and 'vaccine' should be pluralized as 'vaccines.' Additionally, there are issues with capitalization at the start of sentences. While some simple sentences are constructed correctly, the range of structures is very limited. To improve, focus on proofreading your work to correct basic subject-verb agreement and punctuation errors, and practice using a variety of complex sentence structures to demonstrate greater grammatical control.
