Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some people think that information about scientific research, business, and education should be shared to public, while others argue that some information are extremely important and valuable to be shared for free. This essay will discuss both views and state my opinion at the end.
On the one hand, companies are allocating funds for research and development to acquire valuable information for the advancement of their products and services. They usually hire scientists and researchers to study and perform series of experiments to gain the necessary knowledge. Since it is the company who spent money on these researches, the information are considered confidential and are not shared to everyone to protect the company's business. In addition, there are scientific information that are kept private especially if the research is still on-going.
On the other hand, some people believe that it is good to share as much information as possible. When doing a research, scientists usually refer to other experiments and scientific researches and incorporate them in their study. These scientists may discover something new that will be beneficial to a larger group of people. For instance, the scientific study of certain diseases and their possible causes and cure will help the people in the future. Similarly, important information about businesses and education will also benefit the public because they can use it for decision-making purposes.
In conclusion, although there are confidential information that businesses can keep privately, I believe that important and valuable information about science, business, and education should be shared to everyone if possible, as these will benefit the majority of people.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The essay addresses both sides of the prompt and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention that companies protect their research for business reasons and that scientific sharing benefits the public, the arguments lack depth and specific, illustrative examples. For instance, you mention 'certain diseases' but do not elaborate on how open-source data has historically impacted medical breakthroughs. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully extended with concrete reasoning or real-world evidence rather than general statements. The position is consistent, but the overall response feels slightly underdeveloped for an academic task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. The use of cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'On the other hand,' and 'In addition' helps guide the reader through the argument. However, the transition between ideas within paragraphs could be smoother. Some sentences feel slightly disconnected, and the paragraphing is functional but basic. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence flows naturally from the previous one, rather than relying on standard signposting phrases.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'confidential,' 'advancement,' and 'decision-making.' However, the vocabulary is somewhat repetitive and lacks the sophistication required for higher bands. There are also minor issues with collocation, such as 'shared to public' (should be 'shared with the public') and 'perform series of experiments' (should be 'perform a series of experiments'). To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic collocations and avoid repeating the same words (e.g., 'information' and 'research') by using synonyms or paraphrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this level. However, there are recurring grammatical errors that affect accuracy. Specifically, there is a subject-verb agreement issue: 'some information are' (should be 'some information is') and 'the information are' (should be 'the information is'). Additionally, 'shared to everyone' is grammatically awkward; 'shared with everyone' is preferred. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and preposition usage.
