Student answer (Band 6.0)
Information plays a vital role in everyone's life. In the past, people used to share information about the books, newspapers and so on. But nowadays, people share information through the internet and modern technology. There has been a considerable debate on the issue people should share information scientific research, business and valuable to be shared freely.
A fraction of people opine that sharing information can help develop faster. Scientists can learn from each other and find new solutions. For example, during Covid-19 scientists shared information about the virus. This helped them develop vaccines more quickly. Also, students can learn from free books and online courses. In business, sharing useful ideas and software can help small companies grow.
On the other hand, it is believed that some information should not be shared freely. Companies spend a lot of money creating new products. If their secret ideas are shared, they may lose money. For example, a company may have a special recipe or new technology that other companies could copy, some scientific information can also be dangerous. Further enhancing my view sharing information helps people learn, work together and make progress. However, private or dangerous information should not be shared because it can cause problems or harm.
In conclusion, different people have different notions regarding this statement that although, but I have sound reasons to advocate sharing information can help science, education and business. But challenges it poses should not be overlooked.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both sides of the argument and providing a personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the mention of Covid-19 vaccines and business trade secrets. However, the development is somewhat superficial. The introduction is slightly disjointed, and the conclusion is repetitive and lacks a clear summary of the main points. To reach a higher band, you should aim to expand on your examples with more depth and ensure your position is more consistently integrated throughout the body paragraphs rather than just stated in the conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the argument. There is a clear progression from the introduction to the two opposing views and finally the conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'For example' is used three times in quick succession). The transition between the introduction and the first body paragraph is abrupt, and some sentences lack smooth logical flow. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'scientific research', 'vaccines', and 'trade secrets' (implied by 'secret ideas'). However, the range is limited, and there is a lack of more sophisticated or academic vocabulary. Some phrasing is slightly unnatural, such as 'A fraction of people opine', which sounds a bit forced. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic collocations and avoid repeating basic words like 'information' and 'share' too frequently.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'the issue people should share' (missing 'of whether') and 'different notions regarding this statement that although, but I have'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly in the conclusion. The control of complex structures is limited, and errors in sentence construction occasionally distract the reader. To improve, focus on mastering complex sentence forms like relative clauses and conditional sentences, and proofread carefully to eliminate basic errors in subject-verb agreement and word order.
