Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent years, there has been growing public debate surrounding the topic of sharing as much information as possible in scientific research, business, and the academic world or not sharing some information freely, as it is too important or too valuable. While it is true that this topic presents both benefits and drawbacks, I believe that sharing as much information as possible brings more positive consequences than negative ones.
On the one hand, opponents may highlight certain disadvantages. They often argue that it reduces the value of science's great sacrifice. Also, individuals tend to misuse these invaluable discoveries incorrectly due to the lack of sufficient knowledge about them. Additionally, they emphasise the importance of creating values for all essential details. Mainly, this may lead to encouraging researchers to investigate more and discover new invaluable things.
On the other hand, there are several strong arguments in favour of my viewpoint. One of the most significant reasons is that sharing these strategies promotes innovation. Truly, this is particularly important, as it leads to numerous advantages. For instance, businesses and the academic world can use these data using more effective and appropriate ways to ensure their overall improvement. Moreover, another notable benefit is that this approach enables other people, including the young generation to investigate new facts and find out new ways to overcome ongoing difficulties in both the professional and academic worlds. Primarily, this may contribute to enhancing their essential life skills. For example, creativity, productivity, problem-solving ability, and critical thinking skills.
In addition, a recent report indicates the validity of the statement supported by logical evidence, as many individuals have successfully adopted this strategy.
In conclusion, although there are convincing arguments on both sides of this matter, the benefits of sharing as many details as possible outweigh the drawbacks. Considering its highly beneficial impacts on both individuals and society, it is essential to focus on maximising these positive impacts while addressing any potential concerns.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on information sharing in science, business, and academia, and provides a clear personal opinion. The writer's position is maintained throughout the essay. However, the development of ideas in the body paragraphs is somewhat limited and occasionally repetitive. For example, in the first body paragraph, the counter-arguments regarding the misuse of discoveries and the sacrifice of science are stated broadly without concrete examples or deep extension. Conversely, the second body paragraph introduces relevant benefits like innovation and skill enhancement, though some supporting points like 'creativity, productivity, problem-solving ability, and critical thinking skills' are listed as sentence fragments rather than fully integrated. Overall, the task is covered sufficiently to meet the criteria for Band 6.5, leaning towards Band 7 due to a clear position and full coverage of both views.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a logical progression of ideas from introduction to conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with distinct sections for the introduction, opposing view, supportive view, and conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' are employed effectively to guide the reader through the argumentation. However, referencing and cohesion occasionally feel mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent reliance on 'In addition' and 'Moreover'. Furthermore, paragraph four consists of a single isolated sentence ('In addition, a recent report indicates the validity...'), which disrupts the flow and cohesion of the text. Despite these minor lapses, the logical organization remains clear throughout, justifying a Band 6.5 score.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate and generally appropriate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'innovation', 'investigate', 'strategy', and 'consequences'. There are clear attempts to use less common vocabulary, though this occasionally results in awkward phrasing or minor collocation errors, such as 'misuse these invaluable discoveries incorrectly' (which is tautological) and 'create values for all essential details'. Spelling is generally accurate throughout the response. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning clearly without impeding the reader, it lacks the precision, flexibility, and sophistication required to reach the higher band thresholds. Therefore, a Band 6.0 is well-suited for this lexical performance.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay features a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, demonstrating a reasonable command of grammar. Examples of complex forms include conditional and concessive clauses such as 'While it is true that this topic presents both benefits and drawbacks, I believe that...' and 'although there are convincing arguments on both sides of this matter...'. The majority of simple sentences are accurate, and punctuation is generally handled correctly. However, there are some grammatical inaccuracies and awkward structures, such as 'businesses and the academic world can use these data using more effective and appropriate ways' (where prepositional usage is weak) and the aforementioned sentence fragment in paragraph four. These errors are infrequent and do not impede communication, supporting a solid Band 6.5 for grammatical range and accuracy.
