IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Write about the following topic: Some people believe that it is good to share as much information as possible in scientific research, business and the academic world. Others believe that some information is too important or too valuable to be shared freely. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.0)

Sharing all information related to science, business and study is considered important in some people's point of view while others think that only essential information is quiet enough. In my opinion, I will passionately support first statement.

Science is a broader field and it covers sensitive aspects of life such as from biomedical to microbiology and deep down to neurology. If someone has done his research in plant genetics by using a bacteria and he clearly analysed the data according to his observations and interpret it as well but he only shared specific sort of information which impressed him and ignoring other aspects. It is assuredly possible that may be that bacteria proved as major cancer causing agent in human beings with the production of excessive cytokinin. If he will only tells about his growth and does not discussed the type of strain then it cannot discovered that this bacteria is the key root of cancer. But if he shares all information of bacterial strain then it's possible that next scientist when review this article they may discover the negative aspects of this research that can bring revolution in entire world. In other side, if it's not cleared the manufacturing steps of COVID-19 vaccines then it may be possible that people will not take the dose which leads from pandemic to endemic.

So, it should be cleared and policies should be done that all the information should be uploaded in scientific research, business and the academic world rather than only share small piece of information considered exclusive.

Progression of ideas is hindered by run-on sentences and a lack of clear signposting between different concepts. Referencing is sometimes unclear, making it hard to follow the logical flow from one sentence to the next. This level of organisation and mechanical cohesion corresponds to a Band 5 score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for basic communication, featuring topic-related terms such as 'scientific research', 'genetics', 'strain', and 'pandemics'. However, there are numerous inappropriate word choices and collocations, such as 'quiet enough' instead of 'quite enough', 'first statement' instead of 'the first view', and 'manufacturing steps' instead of 'production processes'. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary like 'cytokinin' and 'revolution', but control is weak, and spelling or lexical errors ('interpret' instead of 'interpreted', 'cannot discovered' instead of 'cannot be discovered') detract from precision. These limitations place the vocabulary firmly in the Band 5 category.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a very limited range of grammatical structures, heavily relying on repetitive conditional and modal constructions ('If someone has done...', 'If he will only tells...', 'if it's not cleared...').
