Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today’s digital era, data accessibility has become a highly debated topic. While a segment of society argues that unrestricted information sharing across science, commerce, and academic world accelerates human progress, others contend that certain proprietary or highly sensitive data must be fiercely protected. I believe that while proprietary security is vital in commercial enterprises, scientific and academic knowledge should remain largely open to promote collective human advancement.

On the one hand, people who advocates for complete transparency argue that the free flow of knowledge acts as a catalyst for global innovation. When scientists and academic scholars publish their findings openly, researchers worldwide can validate, replicate, and build upon existing discoveries without replicating efforts. An example of this is the collaborative global mapping of the human genome, which vastly accelerated medical breakthroughs. Furthermore, in business, a corporate culture of sharing non-proprietary data can streamline supply chains and enhance competition, which ultimately drives consumer prices down and raises market standards.

On the other hand, there are compelling reasons why some people believes that it is better to share as much as information as possible in scientific research, business and the academic world as it may inculcate the feeling of responsibility towards the nation and would also help the nation to grow as a whole. people feels that they should be known about each and every aspect of such vital information. a survey conducted by the 'Oxford University' stated that when people are surveyed to check whether they are interested in the affairs related to the information related to scientific researches, business and the academic world, the ratio was at its peaks which shows that people are interested towards such aspects as well.

In my opinion, I believe that while these are the vital information and thus it is required to be kept under security but a small overview can be provided for the individuals who are interested in such information.

In conclusion, in the wake of above it can be easily, clearly and logically be concluded that it is better to share as much information as required and not as possible in the terms of scientific researches, business and the academic world as these are the most crucial and integral part of the nation as a whole.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—unrestricted information sharing versus protecting sensitive data—and provides a clear personal opinion. In the second body paragraph, however, the student misinterprets the second view, framing it as sharing information to 'inculcate the feeling of responsibility towards the nation' and citing a fabricated or mismatched survey about people's interest in academic affairs. This drifts away from the core prompt about commercial, scientific, and academic confidentiality versus open access. Nevertheless, a clear position is maintained throughout, granting a Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay has a clear overall structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'On the one hand' and 'In conclusion', but referencing and transitions become somewhat faulty and repetitive in the latter half of the essay. Phrases like 'in the wake of above it can be easily, clearly and logically be concluded' are overly wordy and mechanical. Progression is also hindered in the third body paragraph where the argument becomes muddled and circular. Therefore, a Band 6.0 is appropriate.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, successfully using terms such as 'data accessibility', 'unrestricted information sharing', and 'catalyst for global innovation'. However, there are noticeable limitations and inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'people who advocates' (grammatical slip in vocabulary deployment) and phrasing like 'ratio was at its peaks'. Less common lexical items are attempted but occasionally lack precision or natural collocation. Communication is not impeded, but vocabulary control aligns best with Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including conditional and relative clauses. There are, however, several recurring grammatical errors and awkward phrasing. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('people who advocates', 'some people believes', 'people feels') and punctuation or structural clumsiness, such as starting a sentence with a lowercase letter ('people feels') and constructing extremely convoluted, run-on sentences in the conclusion ('in the wake of above it can be easily, clearly and logically be concluded...'). While these errors do not completely obscure meaning, they occur frequently enough to prevent the score from reaching Band 6.5.
