Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5

The student attempts to address both views and states an opinion, mentioning scientific analysis, business, and education. However, the response falls significantly short of the required 250 words, containing only 178 words. Due to this severe under-length issue, the task is only partially addressed, and the ideas presented in the body paragraphs remain highly underdeveloped. Furthermore, the response is incomplete, ending abruptly in the second body paragraph with a fragmented sentence ("Because in some circumstances they are right, the"). While the candidate attempts to outline arguments for both sides, the lack of completion and insufficient word count pull this criterion down to a Band 4.5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay attempts a standard structure with an introduction and body paragraphs, but the overall coherence is severely impacted by the abrupt ending and lack of a conclusion. Paragraphing is attempted, but the third paragraph is overly dense and contains multiple ideas jumbled together without adequate transitional progression. Cohesive devices are repetitive and basic, such as 'Intially' and 'However', and referencing is occasionally unclear. The mechanical flow is disrupted by frequent punctuation errors, such as missing spaces after commas (e.g., 'analysis, business'). These issues restrict the text to a Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, relying heavily on standard phrases like 'society', 'information', 'scientific analysis', and 'business'. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary such as 'prosperity', 'unemployment', and 'sensitive and precious information', but word choices are sometimes imprecise or awkward, such as 'deliverd freely among the society' instead of 'to society'. Spelling errors are present, notably 'Intially' and 'delievered'. Because the range is limited and minimally adequate for the task, with noticeable errors in collocation and spelling, a Band 5.0 is appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student demonstrates a mix of simple and emerging complex sentence structures, but control is inconsistent. There are frequent grammatical errors and punctuation flaws throughout the text, including missing articles ('in educational world', 'in field of business'), incorrect prepositions ('in the field of academic world'), and typographical issues like missing spaces after punctuation marks. Moreover, the sentence structure breaks down entirely at the end of the text ('Because in some circumstances they are right, the'), leaving a dependent clause dangling without completion. These persistent errors and the incomplete structure reflect Band 5.0 descriptors.
