IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Write about the following topic: Some people believe that it is good to share as much information as possible in scientific research, business and the academic world. Others believe that some information is too important or too valuable to be shared freely. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Most people think about sharing data in the field of research, business and academic sectors. Others think that some information is so confidential that it should not to be shared publicly. I believe that we should share information with other people to help mankind.

On the one hand, some people believe we should share information in scientific research to help other researchers. If we share our research publicly it will save the time and energy of other researchers, so that they can publish their research early. For example, at the time of COVID-19 the scientists and researchers from almost every country shared their research, so that they can get the idea to make the vaccine. Furthermore, businessmen should also share their strategies of marketing and related areas, so that different organizations can adopt the same strategy to get success. It can also save the money of organizations which they spend on useless policies. Moreover, in the field of academics the bright students and teachers should share their tricks with others, so that they can learn more and get good grades.

On the other hand, some people believe that we should not share information freely because some information is very important. Some people think that if we share our research publicly in the field of pharmaceuticals, someone will steal the data and make the required drug before us. For instance, companies like Coca Cola do not share the entire ingredients which make the taste of the drink, due to this that no other organizations can acquire the same results. Sometimes it is very important to save our data so that nobody threatens us.

To conclude, I believe that it is important we should help others by providing them the information which can make their lives easier.

Spelling is generally accurate, but the range of vocabulary remains somewhat limited and repetitive, with frequent reuse of words like 'share', 'research', and 'information'.
