Student answer (Band 6.0)

People have different views about sharing information in Science, business, and education. Some think all data should be shared with everyone, while others believe important information must be kept private. In my opinion, general knowledge should be shared, but dangerous or valuable secrets must be protected.

On the one hand, sharing information freely helps the world progress faster. When scientists and students share their work, they can learn from each other and solve problems quickly. For example, during medical emergency doctors around the world need shared data to create medicines faster. In business, when companies share badic ideas , new technology grow faster , which helps consumers get better products.

On the other hand, some information is too valuable or risky to share everyone. companies spend a lot of money to design new products . If competitors copy their ideas for free, those companies will lose money and stop creating new products or things. Moreover, some scientific information, like dangerous computer codes or formulas for harmful weapons, can be dangerous if it falls into the wrong hand.

In conclusion, sharing basic research helps society grow and learn. However, because of safety and financial reasons, companies and governments must protect their most valuable secrets. Thererfore, a balance between open sharing and safety is necessary.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response successfully addresses both views regarding the sharing of information in science, business, and academia, and provides a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. However, the response falls short of the minimum length requirement, containing only 210 words instead of the required 250 words. This under-length impacts the depth of idea development, leading to under-developed arguments, particularly in the body paragraphs where examples like "medical emergency" or "badic ideas" lack sufficient elaboration. Consequently, this limitation in task completion restricts the score according to the official descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The text demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph-by-paragraph structure that separates the introduction, the two differing views, and the conclusion. Logical transitions such as "On the one hand" and "On the other hand" are used effectively to guide the reader through the arguments. However, cohesion is occasionally affected by spacing and mechanical issues, such as missing spaces after punctuation (e.g., "private. In", "share everyone"). Paragraphing is generally used appropriately, but the limited development of ideas prevents a smoother progression of thought. Overall, the organizational framework is clear and serves the communication well.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating topic-related terms such as "scientific research," "competitors," "formulas," and "financial reasons." There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, but these are accompanied by word choice and spelling errors, such as "badic ideas" instead of basic ideas, and awkward phrasing like "share everyone." Spelling mistakes like "Thererfore" also occur. Despite these inaccuracies, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the main arguments without significantly impeding the reader's understanding.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writing contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety in structure through conditional and relative clauses. There are several grammatical errors and punctuation mistakes throughout the text, including missing spaces after periods, capitalization issues (e.g., "Science, business"), subject-verb agreement slips (e.g., "technology grow"), and missing prepositions (e.g., "wrong hand" instead of the wrong hands). However, these errors are non-systematic and rarely impede overall communication, allowing the reader to follow the train of thought without major difficulty.
