IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Write about the following topic: Some people believe that it is good to share as much information as possible in scientific research, business and the academic world. Others believe that some information is too important or too valuable to be shared freely. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is widely believed that sharing information across different fields, such as scientific research, business and academia, is significant in today's era, while many people believe that sharing information on such topics is too valuable. This essay will discuss both the views before I present my own view that why I think it is significant to share details freely.
On the one hand, passing on the details in fields, such as scientific research is highly important. It is generally seen as a development in the case of vaccines, medicines and other medical innovations. For example, a COVID-19 vaccine was built on scientific research basis, spreading the knowledge of the vaccine had helped many individuals save their lives from the outbreak. Moreover, growing businesses directly influence what people consume on the internet, meaning that, it is essential for businesses to share as much as information because it may help other sectors like news and televison to grow. Therefore, the action of transferring information from one area to people is important as it helps awareness in twenty-first century.
On the other hand, a more decisive argument is that some information should not be shared publicly. This is because there are several news television channels that channel unnecessary and irrelevant information to the public. Therefore, important information, such as weather news, global about political wars and business-related information is highly advisable to shared.
In my opinion, sharing as much as information on hot topics such as scientific research, business and academic is good, as it creates awareness in the youths.
In conclusion, although some people think that transferring information is too valuable, in my view it is highly seen as a means of knowledge.

For instance, the transition in the third paragraph regarding news television channels abruptly shifts the focus away from the core topic of valuable information to media broadcasting habits. Furthermore, sentences like 'growing businesses directly influence what people consume on the internet, meaning that, it is essential for businesses...' demonstrate awkward punctuation and mechanical linking, which slightly disrupts the natural flow of ideas. Overall, the organization is clear enough to warrant a Band 6.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

However, there are notable limitations and word-choice errors that prevent a higher score.
