IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Write about the following topic: Some people believe that it is good to share as much information as possible in scientific research, business and the academic world. Others believe that some information is too important or too valuable to be shared freely. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
In recent years, sharing information has become an important issue in scientific research, business and education. Some people believe that sharing the information is good for the betterment of the society. while other believe that, some information are very valuable and should not be disclose to anyone. According to my perspective, these two points are standing parallel to each other. Both of them have there own significance, but i will go with the second point. Few information should not be opened up to anyone freely.
One the first hand, people who think that it is good to share information in scientific research, business and the academic world are on the right with some boundries. For Instance, a person who explore the quite expensive thing from the sea. This information must be shared in scientific research, business and the academic world because, the thing that he explored was unique and the people should have a knowledge about that thing.
On the other hand, people who believe that some information is too important or too valuable to be shared freely. For example, an army had a serious conversation within two groups so that conversation should be encrypted. Those conversation should not be shared freely because enemies can take action against us with those information.
According to my point of view, I'll go with those people who think that some information is too important or too valuable to be shared freely because those conversations or information
can exploit the privacy of others and can be harmed.

While the task is addressed and the minimum length requirement is met, the supporting arguments require further elaboration and more relevant, fully developed examples to reach a higher band level.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay displays a basic overall structure with standard paragraphing, introducing the topic, discussing both sides in separate body paragraphs, and concluding with a clear personal stance. However, coherence is hindered by mechanical and faulty use of cohesive devices. For example, transitional phrases such as 'One the first hand' (a hybrid of 'On the one hand') and 'According to my perspective, these two points are standing parallel to each other' reveal awkward referencing and unnatural linking. Progression is sometimes disjointed, and referencing pronouns lack clarity in places. While the logical flow is discernible, the heavy reliance on repetitive patterns and inaccurate cohesive ties pulls this criterion down to a band 5.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student uses a limited and occasionally inappropriate range of vocabulary that is minimally adequate for the task. Words and phrases such as 'betterment of the society', 'disclose to anyone', and 'opened up' demonstrate basic lexical control. There are noticeable word choice and collocation errors throughout the response, including 'some information are' (grammatical/lexical overlap), 'the thing that he explored', and 'can be harmed' instead of 'cause harm'. Less common vocabulary is attempted with limited success, and frequent errors in phrasing occasionally impede the flow of meaning, placing the vocabulary firmly in the band 5.0 category.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The text contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty. Grammatical errors are widespread and persistent throughout the response.
