Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is believed by some that sharing information in the field of scientific research, business and the academic world is beneficial for everyone, while others argue that some data is too crucial to be shared freely. I think that people should share the knowledgeable data with each other and protect the private information that belongs to an organization or a person.

It is imperative for every individual to share the helpful knowledge they learned. This allows learners and scholars from all around the world to work on that specific information related to business or scientific, enabling others to continue research in those areas. For instance, Many scientists and students from different institutes work together solving different problems and provide their solutions in the form of research papers to the public, allowing everyone to learn them and find errors in their implementation. However, not every kind of data is allowed to share freely.

Employees working for an organization are advised to not share the data and designs of the company's product with anyone. Companies even pay billions of dollars to protect the breaching of their data. Furthermore, people ought to not share anyone's personal information. This can cause serious issues for the person who is the owner of that data. For example, Companies such as Apple and Nvidia protect the designs of their chips and products they made, forcing employees working for them not to share the information to anyone.

In conclusion, although educational information should be shared publicly, but if the data is the asset of someone or any organization who does not allow anyone to share it, then it is imperative for every individual to protect that valuable data and not share it publicly.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the view that information should be shared freely in research, business, and academia, and the opposing view that certain data must be protected. You establish a clear position from the introduction and maintain it throughout the essay. Ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as mentioning scientists collaborating on research papers and multinational companies like Apple and Nvidia protecting proprietary chip designs. However, some arguments tend toward generalisation, such as stating broadly that 'not every kind of data is allowed to share freely', which places the essay firmly within the Band 6 or 7 range. Overall, the task is addressed adequately with a clear stance and coherent development.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a clear overall progression with a logical division of paragraphs. The introduction outlines the topic and your stance, the second body paragraph discusses the benefits of sharing information, the third body paragraph details the reasons for protecting sensitive data, and the conclusion summarises the main points. Cohesive devices are used to link ideas, such as 'Furthermore', 'For example', and 'In conclusion', though some referencing and transitional phrasing feel slightly mechanical, such as 'It is imperative for every individual to share...'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, ensuring the reader can follow the argumentative flow easily. This performance aligns well with the requirements for Band 6.5 or a solid Band 7.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'imperative', 'propagate', 'breaching', and 'proprietary'. However, there are some noticeable inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as writing 'the knowledgeable data' instead of 'useful knowledge' or 'valuable data', and 'allowed to share freely' instead of 'allowed to be shared freely'. Additionally, the phrase 'force employees... not to share the information to anyone' contains a prepositional error ('to anyone' instead of 'with anyone'). Despite these slips, the vocabulary used is sufficient to convey your meaning without impeding communication, representing a standard typical of Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including conditional or concessive clauses such as 'In conclusion, although educational information should be shared publicly, but if the data is the asset...'. This sentence contains a common redundancy by pairing 'although' with 'but'. You demonstrate good control over basic structures and punctuation, but grammatical errors do persist, particularly with passive voice constructions ('data is allowed to share' instead of 'data is allowed to be shared') and article usage ('the products they made'). While these errors do not impede communication, the frequency of minor structural inaccuracies prevents the grammar score from reaching the higher bands.
