IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Write about the following topic: Some people believe that it is good to share as much information as possible in scientific research, business and the academic world. Others believe that some information is too important or too valuable to be shared freely. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
Nowadays, many people think that it is benificial to share most of the information related to scientific research, businesses and academic word shoud be shared with the public, while other think that some piece of information is really vital and valuable that it should not be shared freely. I will discuss both views before giving my own opinion.
Firstly, sharing information with other organizations or businesses can help them to learn and do better discoveries. For instance, an organisation is facing difficulties with a certain problem and sharing information with them can help them to resolve a particular issue. Moreover, sharing information can also be fruitful for new discoveries as it saves time and efforts as companies do not need to waste time on the same task and they can spend time on other discoveries.

Paragraphing is not fully utilized due to the premature ending. Cohesion at the sentence level is acceptable, but the lack of an overall progression limits the score to Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student demonstrates a basic vocabulary range suitable for discussing general concepts, utilizing words such as 'organization', 'difficulties', 'resolve', and 'fruitful'. There are some vocabulary errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'benificial' (spelling error) and 'academic word shoud be shared' (lexical and grammatical slip). While less common lexical items are attempted, the limited volume of text and these inaccuracies restrict the score to Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as the concessive clause in the opening sentence ('Nowadays, many people think that... while other think that...'). However, there are notable grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('other think', 'information... shoud be shared') and spelling mistakes ('benificial').
