Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt regarding the sharing of information in research, business, and academia, while presenting a clear personal position in favour of open sharing. However, the development of ideas is limited and at times disjointed. For instance, the discussion of the first view moves abruptly between education in Asia, funding issues, and collaborating with friends and family without fully extending the arguments. The counter-argument touches upon relevant issues such as cyber-attacks and data leaks, but the supporting examples remain somewhat underdeveloped and broad. To reach a higher band, the ideas require more robust support, greater clarity in reasoning, and a more structured presentation of the arguments.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay displays an overall attempt at organisation with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each view, and a conclusion. However, cohesion is frequently faulty and mechanical. Run-on sentences and problematic transitions, such as 'that’s why some school of thought, that’s why every single person has right to aware', disrupt the flow of reading. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion is weak due to a lack of precise cohesive devices. Pronoun referencing is also unclear at times, making it difficult to follow the logical progression of ideas. Organisation is present, but logical progression requires significant improvement to achieve a higher score.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, with noticeable errors in word choice and collocations, such as 'in now days’', 'current asset', 'right to aware', and 'date leak'. There are also instances of awkward phrasing like 'some time it’s toxic' and 'drugs companies leak data use for dangers'. The range of vocabulary is minimally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey a general meaning, but frequent lexical inaccuracies and non-standard word forms constrain the expression and occasionally impede the reader's understanding.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The grammatical structure of the essay is heavily flawed, dominated by complex sentence attempts that become run-on fragments. Examples include 'In now days’ information about anything is very valuable in current asset that’s why some school of thought, that’s why every single person has right to aware about their domain and other school of thought, show a red flag on it according to them information is costly moreover some time it’s toxic to share it.' Punctuation is largely absent or misused, leading to sentences that run together without clear boundaries. Simple structures are controlled, but attempts at complex forms introduce frequent, heavy errors that frequently cause difficulty for the reader.
