IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Write about the following topic: Some people believe that it is good to share as much information as possible in scientific research, business and the academic world. Others believe that some information is too important or too valuable to be shared freely. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

On the fence of the debate, some people believe that it is better to remove the information barriers in terms of scientific research, business and the academic world, while others oppose this, as removing the information barriers or oversharing it, can be harmful, as the information can be important or valuable.

Initially, in the scientific research field, sharing the information between the scientists globally, can be helpful for them. During 2019, when the scientist of a country found the vaccine for it, they shared the information globally which helped the world to cure it efficiently in a less time. In the business field, various business men can form a general group from all over the world and can help each other's problem by sharing the information about several topics. While the academic world, will also be benefited by sharing information globally in various aspects, like technology and improved structures used for studies.

However, sharing the information cannot be beneficial every time. In science field, some countries have their private and important projects, which cannot be shared globally as these types of information are too valuable. In business field, several businessmen have created their strategies for the growth of their business, if they tell the secret strategies for their growth then, many businessmen will follow that strategies which lead to unpopularity of their business. While in the academic world, if institutions share the syllabus or the information they teach to the students cannot be beneficial in several aspects.

In conclusion, both views are right from their perspectives, that sharing information can be beneficial in the scientific research, business and academic world, despite, they also harmful at the same time because some information can be important and too valuable to be shared freely.
