Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on information sharing in scientific, business, and academic contexts, and provides a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. However, the development of ideas is limited and repetitive. For instance, the arguments regarding avoiding future mistakes and solving difficult problems are supported by vague examples, such as 'millionares are sharing there story' and 'social media apps'. The reasoning remains superficial, and the connection to the specific domains mentioned in the prompt (scientific research, business, and academia) is largely lost in the body paragraphs, shifting instead to personal success stories and terrorism intel. These shortcomings place the response at Band 5.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay has a basic organizational structure with an introduction, two body paragraphs representing opposing views, and a conclusion. However, progression is frequently disrupted by poor logical sequencing and repetitive phrasing. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion is weak and often mechanical, relying heavily on repetitive connectors like 'For instance' and 'Furthermore'. Referencing is frequently unclear, such as the abrupt transition in the final body paragraph to terrorism and government intelligence, which lacks logical connection to the preceding academic and business context. Furthermore, run-on sentences and a lack of cohesive transitions between clauses impede smooth readability. These features align with a Band 5 descriptor.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with frequent reliance on simple words and phrases such as 'good', 'best method', 'sharing information', and 'problem'. There are numerous spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'prespectives' instead of perspectives, 'millionares' instead of millionaires, 'faliures' instead of failures, 'belive' instead of believe, and 'handel' instead of handle. The student attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'crucial', but overall, the lexical range is narrow and inadequate for precision, causing noticeable difficulty for the reader. This performance sits firmly at Band 5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar and punctuation is weak. There are frequent errors in verb tense, article usage, subject-verb agreement, and sentence structure, such as 'other argue that we should only share valuable information is a best method' and 'the reason is that because sharing information help other people to avoid these mistake u have do'. Non-standard abbreviations like 'u' and 'ur' are also present, reflecting an informal register. Complex structures are often faulty and cause frequent strain for the reader, matching the Band 5 descriptors.
