IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Write about the following topic: Some people believe that it is good to share as much information as possible in scientific research, business and the academic world. Others believe that some information is too important or too valuable to be shared freely. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
In contmporary society, information play a vital role whether it is for scientific research, businesss and the academic wolrd, some individuals admire that information should be is beneficial and it is shared as widely as possible. other belive that some date are valuable or sensitive and not shared freely. This essay will discuss both these views, but i belive that information should be given with reasonable restrictions.
On the one hand, sharing information can have several benefits. In scientific research, researchers can build on the findings of others instead of repeating the same works. This can help scientist develop new medicine, technology and solution to global problems quickly. Similarly a business can benefits for exchanging khowledge because corporation can lead to better production and efficient methods can bring productivity. In academic world students and teachers can also have a wider rangen of resources, which is advantegous for the career and improve the education quality.
On the other hand, companies spend a large amount of money and technology on their new products, so their confidential information is important for their competitive postion. If such information is being shared to their competitor this can cause a huge financial loss to company. Furthermore, some scientific research and government records are involve personal data such as , spy agent details, secret nuclear buleprint, if this data making it publicly available could create huge loss to a individual country.
In conclusion, information sharing is generally beneficial because it encourages productivity and cooperation. However, valuable , sensitive information should be proctected becuase if it falls into hands it could create huge massacre.

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, dividing the introduction, two body paragraphs, and the conclusion effectively. Logical markers such as 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand' are employed to guide the reader through opposing perspectives. However, cohesion is at times faulty or mechanical. For example, referencing and transitional phrases within sentences show awkwardness, such as 'Furthermore, some scientific research and government records are involve personal data such as , spy agent details...' Paragraph transitions and internal connections could be smoother and more varied. This reflects the characteristics of Band 6, where the essay is coherent overall with adequate paragraphing, but cohesive devices can be mechanical or slightly inaccurate.
