IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Write about the following topic: Some people believe that it is good to share as much information as possible in scientific research, business and the academic world. Others believe that some information is too important or too valuable to be shared freely. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.0)

Nowadays, information is very important in scientific research, business and academic world. some people believe that it is good to share as much information is possible and some people believe that some information is to important and too valuable that can't be discuss freely. This eassy will discuss both point and also my opinion.

Firstly, many people share so much information about scientific research because many scientist can work togather and make a new discovery which will benefit lot of people and it will help many student in educational way and teachers may also get so much help about the new way studying the student For example if scientist share information about new disease more scientist will reach out and work togather to make a cure of the disease because other researcher may aqlso help them and make a better treatment.

Secondly, some of the people do not share any kind of information because some information have to remain secreat and should be protected from everyone. People do not share information about their business and their companies because if information is leaked company face loss because of the other competitors in the market. For example,if company have a new recipe or new tecnology that give information to others which they can copy thats why is type of information can not be tell freely.

In conclusion, that type of information should be speaken publically which will benefit society and for educational purpose and some information is sensitive that should not be shared piblically

However, cohesion is often faulty and mechanical. The student relies heavily on basic cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion'. Furthermore, referencing and logical progression are sometimes hindered by poor punctuation, run-on sentences, and repetition of phrases (e.g., repeating 'some information' multiple times). There are also instances where sentences are jammed together without proper transitions or punctuation. These issues place the response firmly in the Band 5.0 range, as progression is occasionally obscured by inadequate cohesive devices.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The lexical resource is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The student attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'discovery', 'competitors', 'recipe', and 'technology', but there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text (e.g., 'eassy' instead of essay, 'togather' instead of together, 'secreat' instead of secret, 'tecnology' instead of technology, 'speaken' instead of spoken, and 'piblically' instead of publicly). Additionally, phrasing is repetitive, such as 'share so much information' and 'some information'. While the meaning is generally clear despite these errors, the frequent spelling and lexical inaccuracies restrict the score to a Band 5.0.

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty.
