Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this technological era, several individuals believe that it is beneficial to share details of scientific research, business and the academic world as much as possible. While, others argue that some information is too confidential to be shared openly. Both views will be discussed further in essay and i will state my opinion in conclusion.

On the one hand, the major positive of sharing research information is it will help other researchers to understand that phenomena and study further about that. For example, if a study conducted on how human brain works shared with the researchers who learning about connection between brain and dreams, will be a massive help. Apart from this, sharing information about business and academic will facilitate easy learning for other person. Because, sharing thoughts with each other increase the knowledge of every involved person, there knowledge will grow exponentially. For instance, a reserch indicates that the students learning in group study solve problems quicker than the student studying alone.

On the other hand, i contend that there are several drawbacks of sharing important and valuable informations of scientic research and business. The first and foremost one is it can threaten the confidentiallity. To elaborate, there are always sensitive and private data in every business and research. sharing these sensitive information freely will cause major legal, financial and ethical issues for organizations. Secondly, organizations across the globe want to keep technologies exclusive they develop so they can have more profit. If that technology shared with everyone than there demand will decrease. In addition, goverments can not share war technologies because it can cost them loss of major resources if oppositions knows the pros and cons of technology.

In conclusion, there are numerous positives of sharing information along with several negatives. In my opinion, sharing information is very beneficial but sensitive information should not be shared openly.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that information should be shared freely and that some data is too sensitive or valuable—and provides a clear position in the conclusion. However, the development of ideas is uneven. While the first body paragraph touches upon how sharing helps researchers understand phenomena, the example regarding the human brain is somewhat limited and under-developed. Similarly, the points about business and academic sharing in the second part of that paragraph are brief and lack depth. The opposing view is better supported with specific risks such as threats to confidentiality and the protection of exclusive technologies, yet some arguments remain general. Overall, the task is adequately addressed with relevant ideas, placing the response firmly at this level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear, logical progression of ideas from the introduction through the body paragraphs to the conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, separating the two distinct viewpoints into dedicated sections. Cohesive devices are employed to signal transitions, such as 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand'. However, referencing and cohesion occasionally feel mechanical or slightly faulty, as seen with transitional phrases like 'Apart from this' and 'Secondly', which do not always create completely smooth links. To move towards higher bands, the integration of cohesive devices needs to be more natural and fluid, ensuring seamless movement between sentences and paragraphs without relying on repetitive formulas.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'confidentiality', 'exponentially', and 'exclusive'. However, there are notable instances of word choice, word form, and spelling errors throughout the text. Examples include 'confidentiallity' (spelling), 'reserch' (spelling), 'informations' (pluralisation of an uncountable noun), and awkward phrasings like 'study conducted on how human brain works shared with the researchers who learning'. These errors do not impede communication, but they restrict the score because they show limited precision and control over less common lexical items. Strengthening word formation and accuracy will help elevate the lexical quality.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like conditional clauses and relative clauses. There are, however, several errors in grammar and punctuation that appear across the response. These include missing articles ('study conducted on how human brain works'), pronoun case and capitalization issues ('i will state my opinion', 'i contend'), subject-verb agreement problems ('there demand will decrease', 'goverments can not share'), and awkward prepositional or clausal patterns ('students learning in group study solve problems quicker than the student studying alone'). While these errors rarely impede communication and the basic meaning remains clear, the frequent presence of minor grammatical slips prevents the response from achieving a higher band.
