Student answer (Band 5.0)

In recent years, Some people believe that it is good to share as much information as possible in scientific research, business and the academic world while others believed some information is too important or valuable to be shared freely, that has been a subject of considerable debate in the rising world. While there are valid arguments on both sides, I believe that the drawbacks of sharing information are far outweigh than benefits.

There are several compelling reasons to support this. The most significant is that sharing information regarding something means you are getting everyone alert about something, like something big is coming. It enhances curiosity and promotes faliure. According to my opinion, people should protect their decisions by hiding them from society. For example in pakistan, many students use online platforms and earn money but they do not have audacity to share that details with others to make the country successful, infact, they keep an eye on others' success.

Furthermore, according to our religion, its clearly mentioned that do not spread your news before happening. This means that all of the people are not loyal with you and they put jinx on your success.

Admittedly, there are some concerns associated with not sharing information in research or business. One major drawback is that person needs somoeone for sharing his thoughts and sometimes want opinions. It can lead to sadness and deppression.

However, this solution can be mitigated, so it does not overshadow the positives.

In conclusion, although has certain advantages, but I am convinced that its disadvantages, are far more substantial. Therefore, its efficient use should be encouraged.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response addresses the task only partially, fulfilling the requirement to discuss both views and give an opinion, but the development of ideas is limited and sometimes tangential. For instance, the prompt asks about scientific research, business, and the academic world, but the student shifts the discussion towards personal privacy and religious beliefs about hiding success from society, such as the example about students in Pakistan earning money online. The position is expressed, but the supporting arguments lack depth and academic focus. To move to a higher band, the writer must ensure all ideas are directly relevant to the specific domains mentioned in the prompt and extend their arguments with well-developed, logical examples rather than personal or cultural generalisations.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some organisation evident in the text, with clear paragraph breaks separating the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion, but there is no clear overall progression of thought. Cohesive devices are sometimes inadequate, inaccurate, or repetitive, as seen in the mechanical transitions like 'Furthermore, according to our religion...' and 'Admittedly, there are some concerns...'. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as the pronoun use in 'this solution can be mitigated'. To achieve a higher score, the student needs to employ a wider range of cohesive devices more naturally and ensure that the logical links between sentences and paragraphs guide the reader smoothly through a well-structured argument without abrupt shifts in topic.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey basic ideas, featuring frequent errors in word choice, collocation, and spelling that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. Examples of noticeable errors include 'faliure' instead of failure, 'audacity' used inappropriately to mean the courage to share details, and 'put jinx on your success'. While the writer attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'considerable debate' and 'substantial', inaccuracies in word formation and phrasing restrict the range. To improve, the student should focus on learning correct collocations, improving spelling accuracy, and using precise academic vocabulary suited to the context of research and business.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on basic sentence forms with frequent errors when attempting complex sentences. There are persistent errors in verb forms, tenses, article usage, and prepositions, such as 'are far outweigh than benefits', 'sharing information regarding something means you are getting everyone alert', and 'person needs somoeone for sharing his thoughts'. Additionally, punctuation and sentence boundary errors are present, including run-on sentences like 'Although has certain advantages, but I am convinced...'. Frequent grammatical errors cause some difficulty for the reader. To reach the next level, the writer must improve control over basic sentence patterns, eliminate recurring grammatical slips, and increase the accuracy of complex clauses.
