Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response addresses the task only partially, which aligns with the lower-end descriptor. While the student attempts to discuss both views on sharing scientific and academic information and briefly mentions an opinion in the introduction and an incomplete final sentence, the ideas are heavily limited and under-developed. For instance, the prompt asks to discuss both views and give an opinion, but the arguments are repetitive and lack clear extension. Phrases like 'research boost up and other things like business become good' demonstrate a lack of depth and specific elaboration. To reach the next level, the writer needs to present fully developed positions with well-supported arguments rather than generalized statements.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response shows some basic organization with discernible paragraphs tackling different sides of the topic, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are frequently inadequate, inaccurate, or repetitive, such as the mechanical and confusing use of 'On the one hand' and 'While on the other hand' which fail to properly contrast the viewpoints. Furthermore, referencing is often unclear, as seen in the phrase 'when we freely share their importent ideas then people like this', where pronoun agreement and logical flow break down. Progression stalls because sentences are loosely strung together rather than systematically building an argument. Improving cohesion requires a wider and more accurate range of linking words and clearer referencing.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, with a heavy reliance on basic terms like 'good', 'ideas', 'share', and 'business'. There are also frequent spelling and word-form errors that strain the reader's understanding, such as 'busines', 'becuase', 'informationn', 'scientic', and 'importent'. Word choices are often unnatural and lack precision, for example, 'development increase' instead of 'development increases' or 'growth occurs'. The student attempts some less common vocabulary items like 'advocates' and 'survey', but these are undermined by persistent inaccuracies in collocation and spelling. To improve, the writer must expand their vocabulary range and focus on accurate spelling and word formation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response displays a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple or faulty complex forms. Errors are frequent and often cause difficulty for the reader, particularly in verb forms, articles, and prepositions inside grammatical patterns. Examples include 'sharing information to busines, academic world is good habit', 'information has greater benefit as shared freely due to encourage people', and 'students are free to share importent ideas and such way their students had high value'. Punctuation is also weak, and the essay ends abruptly with an incomplete sentence ('so that they can build their'). To progress, the writer needs to demonstrate a greater variety of complex structures with improved control over basic grammar rules and sentence completion.
