Student answer (Band 5.5)

Information can be good or bad, leading or misleading. It really depends on situation whether it should be shared or not. Someone believes to share it freely whether it is from scientific research, business and the academic world whereas others believe not to share some important information. i will discuss both views.

Initially, for some people it is crucial to share information from field of science, business and education research. They want to share it because it will let the people know about where we are progressing. For example, in 2020, it was necessary that people must have knowledge about the medicine for corona virus is being discovered by scientists. It was important information at that time. Moreover, people got relief when they heard about it.

However, sometimes it becomes vital to keep the information secret. Sometimes it can be beneficial for a country. For example, In India, in 1991, there was an economic emergency. So, to overcome from it RBI decided to take loan from IMF.This information was kept secret from media because it may cause the trouble for the deal and country. Also, when operation SINDOOR was held then nobody had information about it.When it was done then everyone came to know about it.

In short, it depends on the situation, whether infomation is for the people or not. In business some information is kept secret so that their competitors cannot copy them.Meanwhile, they share their annual reports so that investors can get help to understand about company. Information should be correct . It should not be misleading the people.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on sharing information and offering a personal opinion, which places it at this level. However, the treatment of the prompt is somewhat uneven. The ideas are occasionally limited and under-developed, particularly in the introduction and conclusion where the position is not always clearly articulated. For instance, the statement 'Information can be good or bad, leading or misleading' touches on the topic generally, but the discussion of why information should or should not be shared in scientific research, business, and academia lacks depth. Examples such as the mention of the 1991 Indian economic emergency are relevant, but their connection to the broader debate about information transparency is not fully expanded. To move to a higher band, the writer needs to provide more fully extended and supported ideas, ensuring that both views are explored with greater nuance and analytical depth.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the essay into logical paragraphs, including an introduction, two body paragraphs discussing opposing views, and a brief conclusion. This satisfies the baseline requirements for paragraphing and logical progression. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty. Transitional phrases like 'Initially' and 'In short' are used to link paragraphs, but referencing and internal cohesion within sentences can be repetitive or unclear, such as the frequent reliance on 'Sometimes' in the third paragraph. Furthermore, the flow between sentences occasionally feels abrupt. To achieve a higher score, the writer should employ a wider and more flexible range of cohesive devices and ensure that referencing is smooth and precise throughout the text, maintaining a clearer logical progression from one idea to the next.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, providing a minimally sufficient range to communicate basic ideas about information sharing, business, and science. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items such as 'economic emergency' and 'competitors', but there are noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and word form, such as 'Someone believes to share it' instead of 'Some people believe it should be shared' and 'overcome from it' instead of 'overcome it'. Additionally, minor inaccuracies appear throughout the text. These errors do not seriously impede communication, allowing the reader to grasp the core message, but they restrict the score. To progress further, the writer needs to expand their lexical repertoire, incorporate more precise academic terminology, and demonstrate greater control over word formation and collocation to ensure natural and accurate expression.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response exhibits a limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside a few basic attempts at complex forms. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing articles ('medicine for corona virus', 'from media'), incorrect prepositions ('from field of science'), and issues with subject-verb agreement and pronoun reference. For example, 'Someone believes to share it freely whether it is from scientific research, business and the academic world' contains several structural inaccuracies. While these errors rarely completely obscure the intended meaning, they are frequent enough to cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted control over grammatical patterns. To reach a higher standard, the writer must incorporate a greater variety of complex sentence structures with higher accuracy, paying closer attention to verb tenses, articles, and prepositional usage within grammatical patterns.
