Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is believed that knowledge gained in different fields like academia, business and scientific research should not be available free of cost because of its importance and value. But some people think that this information should be transfer to others just for social cause while nothing to expect in return. I agree with second opinion.

A group of individuals trust the saying that acquired data should be made available to the people belonging from business, academic and research community. It will be a well-being for the society and overall community. Sharing knowledge will be beneficial for others as well. If someone has knowledge about particular field and he is not sharing it with the relevant people then it is of no use and it will stay limited. Knowledge grows as it is shared or exchanged. It will be a great gesture to contribute in infromation of other field related personnels.

Another class of people think in contrast. They consider that the information is a worthy asset and it will be too much to be shared freely. Everything comes up with a cost whether it takes up money or struggle but it should carry some worth for being valued. Acquired data is always important and valuable so making it free for people with make it worthless and decrease its value. So in order to protect its dignity it should be limited upto certain group of people.

In conclusion, both parties carry their own opinion and they do not think alike. But I agree with the opinion that information should be available free across platforms like internet, books and magzines so that relevant person feel no hesitation or resistance in gaining that knowledge.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on sharing information and providing a clear, albeit simple, personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. However, the ideas remain somewhat limited and under-developed, which prevents the essay from reaching a higher level. For instance, the second body paragraph argues that information has a cost and must be protected for its dignity, but this point lacks fully realized supporting examples or deep exploration. While the position is visible, the arguments rely heavily on general assertions rather than extended, well-supported analysis. To move higher, you should expand your arguments with specific real-world examples or more nuanced reasoning for both sides of the issue.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph-by-paragraph structure that separates the introduction, the two differing views, and the conclusion. However, cohesion at times feels mechanical or slightly repetitive, as seen with transitions like 'Another class of people think in contrast'. Referencing is generally adequate, but logical links between sentences can feel abrupt, which disrupts the natural progression of ideas. To achieve a stronger flow, you should aim for more sophisticated and varied cohesive devices to connect your arguments seamlessly without relying on formulaic transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your general meaning across the essay. You make attempts at less common vocabulary such as 'worthy asset', 'dignity', and 'resistance', but these are occasionally accompanied by word-choice and collocation errors, such as 'transfer to others just for social cause while nothing to expect' and 'belonging from'. Additionally, there are spelling and word-formation errors like 'infromation' and 'magzines'. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score. To improve, focus on precise word choices and correct collocations alongside careful proofreading for spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt to use varied structures. However, frequent grammatical errors are present throughout the text, including issues with passive voice formation ('should be transfer'), missing articles ('for social cause', 'in other field'), incorrect prepositions ('belonging from'), and subject-verb agreement ('people with make it'). These errors require some effort from the reader to decode, though they rarely obscure the overall meaning entirely. To progress, you need to tighten your control over basic grammatical patterns, verb forms, and prepositional usage within complex sentences.
