Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response addresses the prompt only minimally, failing to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, as the text stops well short at only 162 words. While the writer attempts to introduce both views on information sharing and briefly mentions a personal perspective, the development is severely curtailed. Ideas remain limited and under-developed, lacking the necessary supporting arguments and comprehensive discussion required to fully explore scientific, business, and academic contexts. For instance, the example regarding car spare parts is overly simplistic and underdeveloped, which prevents the response from moving into higher bands. To improve, the writer must ensure the full word length is achieved and extend each main idea with relevant explanations and examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay displays some organizational structure with basic cohesive devices, such as introductory framing and transitional phrases like 'On the one hand'. However, there is no clear overall progression across the text, and the cohesive devices used are sometimes inaccurate, repetitive, or mechanically applied, such as the awkward transition 'In course of this essay'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the connection between sentences and ideas can feel disjointed and repetitive. Referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly with pronoun use and transitions between the introduction and the body paragraph. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to ensure a smoother logical flow, employ a wider variety of cohesive devices accurately, and maintain a clear, progressive structure throughout the entire response.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some topic-related vocabulary such as 'research', 'business', and 'academic world', but there are numerous noticeable errors in spelling, word choice, and word form, including 'complsory', 'secrrecy', 'repective', 'nessasory', 'sentific', 'acdamic', and 'naboure'. These errors occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader. Although the writer attempts some less common expressions, lexical control is weak. To improve, the writer needs to expand their vocabulary range, practice correct word forms, and focus heavily on spelling accuracy to ensure communication is completely unobstructed.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The essay demonstrates a limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on basic sentence forms with frequent errors. Attempts at complex sentences are often faulty, featuring issues with punctuation, verb forms, and clause structures, such as run-on sentences and comma splices in 'The issue of sharing information is becoming debatable these day, While it is thought...'. Frequent errors in grammar, plurals, and prepositions are evident throughout the text, including 'these day', 'its complsory', and 'to stated views'. These errors cause noticeable difficulty for the reader. To move up to the next band, the writer must incorporate a wider variety of complex sentence structures and improve grammatical accuracy to reduce the frequency of basic errors.
