Student answer (Band 5.5)

Some individuals are of the opinion that it is vital to share as many details as possible in scientific research, business and the academic field , while some argue that some information is too sensitive to be shared with ease. I believe it important that it is necessary to share as much information ass possible in scientific research , however, measures should be put in place to keep some sensitive onformation away from the public.

To start with, sharing some vital information about scientific research might induce fear among the poblic. Some scientific discoveries about possible danger such as security threat and epidemic outbreak would put the public in great panic, making them to overthink when it has yet to be comfirmed. It is better the public are left in the dark for issues like this untill more information or details are known by the research team to confirm the certainty of the anticipated occurrance. For example, during the outbreak of Crona virus in Nigeria, many people got information about the virus wrongly and as such, took measures that were not veriffied like bathing with salt and injesting it. This caused a lot of harm in the society as many lost their lives and some became even more sick because of this action. Also it is safer when the public do not know as they are less likely to take actions that would endanger their lives.

However, the public having knowledge about some scientific research helps them to take necessary steps to avoid harm or live better. During the Corona virus for instance, the puplic were informed about the deadly virus and things they could do to keep them safe like wearing masks and always washing their hands after touching a surface. This helped to keep millions of people safe just because the scientific research team warned the public. Furthermore, letting the puplic know about scientific reseach on health always help the people to make more informed decision about their health . For example, taking advise on participating in physical activities and avoiding smoking according to reseach lead to better life without some health challenges.

In conclusion, letting the puplic know some informatiom is important as regulating how they recieve it.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both views on information sharing and offering an opinion. However, some parts of the task are developed more fully than others, and the discussion focuses primarily on scientific and health research while largely omitting business and academic contexts. The position is stated in the introduction and reinforced in the conclusion, but the supporting ideas are somewhat limited and occasionally lack extension. For example, the argument regarding the panic caused by sharing scientific discoveries is introduced with general assertions about security threats and epidemics, but the reasoning remains basic. The inclusion of nine words copied directly from the prompt has been accounted for, and the response successfully meets all length requirements for this task type.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the discussion into an introduction, body paragraphs addressing each view, and a brief conclusion. Paragraphing is used to separate contrasting ideas, with distinct transitions like 'To start with' and 'However'. However, the progression of ideas can feel mechanical at times, and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the pronoun use in 'letting the puplic know some informatiom is important as regulating how they recieve it' in the final sentence. Cohesive devices are present but sometimes applied rigidly, leading to a somewhat formulaic flow rather than a seamless logical progression throughout.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, demonstrating sufficient range to discuss public information and safety. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items such as 'epidemic outbreak', 'anticipated occurrance', and 'informed decision'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the response, including 'poblic', 'comfirmed', 'untill', 'Crona', 'veriffied', 'injesting', 'advise', and 'informatiom'. While these lexical inaccuracies and spelling slips do not completely impede communication, they reflect limitations in precision and control that prevent the response from achieving a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over basic structures and attempting more intricate clauses, such as conditional and participial constructions like 'During the Corona virus for instance, the puplic were informed about the deadly virus and things they could do to keep them safe'. There are, however, several errors in grammar and punctuation, including articles ('the public', 'a lot of harm'), subject-verb agreement issues ('reseach lead'), and clumsy phrasing like 'making them to overthink'. These errors are noticeable but rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the main arguments despite the grammatical blemishes.
