Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is contend that sharing content related to scientific analysis, business and academic world is appreciated, whereas others consider that some data is too personal and precious that it must be kept confidential. In my opinion, both believes give a valid standpoint which i will discuss further in my essay.

In education sector, where each study has its importance because of loads of hard work behind it and also in business world full of competition, strategies and policies are valuable, sharing information with others is a crutial matter. People in favour of sharing hold thier stance due to various reasons including encouraging other, bring creativity in society and to create a strong impact as acollective body. For example, specifically in scientific research , it is essential in most cases where it is mandatory to share your information of what are you doing research on, as it will minimise the chance of duplicate work and will save others a lot of time.

In favour of the opinion of gatekeeping such high-end data, is that business world is full of competition and to share any information is to favour your opponent . For example, in science also, sharing can sometimes bring a lot of rivals and can rise many false accusations. Academic world requires creativity and specificity in one, which can only be achieved by not sharing every information freely.

In my opinion, such priceless and personal data must not be shared freely in your specific world, but when necessary in case of an advice from seniors or approval sharing becomes mandatory.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both perspectives and give a personal view, so the response is relevant to the full task. The scientific-research example—that sharing can prevent duplicated work and save time—supports the benefits of openness. You also explain why businesses may protect strategies from competitors. However, several points remain broad or unclear: the claim that sharing creates “a lot of rivals” and “false accusations” is not explained, and the academic-world argument about creativity is difficult to follow. Your conclusion says information should not be shared freely but may be shared when advice or approval is needed; clarify how this position balances the two views and support it with a more specific example. More development and precision would make the discussion more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph supporting sharing, a paragraph supporting confidentiality, and a concluding opinion. This makes the main stages easy to identify. You also use linking expressions such as “For example,” “In my opinion,” and “whereas” to connect ideas. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear, particularly where the discussion moves from business competition to scientific rivals and then to academic creativity. Some connections are mechanical or imprecise, and references such as “one” in “specificity in one” do not clearly identify what is meant. Strengthen the logical links between each claim and its explanation, and use clearer topic sentences and references so readers can follow how each example supports the paragraph’s main point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt vocabulary suited to the topic, including “scientific research,” “competition,” “strategies,” “confidential,” and “duplicate work.” These choices help communicate the central contrast between sharing and protecting information. However, there are noticeable spelling, word-form, and collocation problems, such as “crutial,” “thier,” “as acollective body,” and “gatekeeping such high-end data.” Some phrases are also imprecise or unnatural, including “each study has its importance” and “bring a lot of rivals,” which can make the intended meaning less clear. Aim for accurate, natural combinations rather than adding elaborate wording: for instance, describe information as “commercially sensitive” or say that openness “encourages collaboration.” Proofreading spelling and checking collocations would improve clarity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast clause in the opening and a reason clause in “where it is mandatory to share…” This shows an attempt to vary sentence structure. However, some errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction remain. For example, “It is contend” needs a passive participle, while “both believes give” has a number-agreement problem. The sentence beginning “In favour of the opinion…” is an incomplete construction, and “what are you doing research on” does not fit the surrounding reported statement. Capitalisation of “i” and punctuation around commas also need attention. Review sentence boundaries and check subject–verb agreement and clause structure; this will make your ideas easier to understand while preserving your attempts at complexity.
