Student answer (Band 5.5)

In today's world, few persons think that it is beneficial to exchange as much knowledge as possible in scientific research, business and the educational world, wheras others believed that there is some sort of information which is too much precious to be shared openly. As far as I am concerned, I am in favour of former notion.

To commence with, It is good to share as much knowledge as we can in scientific research, business and academic world. Because, if we wanted to master any field then it is necessary that we have enough information about it and that information will only come forward if we exchange it freely with each other. Especially when it is important for the development or benefit of humanity. For example, the anesthesia, we all know that before the discovery of anesthesia the opeartions were very painful but when an American dentist discovered it, he shared his dicovery with whole world and it helped the doctors to make their operations less painful for patients.

To begin, I also admire the fact that some information is too valuable to shared freely. In other words, sometimes sharing an important information with whole world becomes a threat to society. For instance, When the founder of Ak 47 share his design with whole world, the people immediately picked it and made more powerful rifels by ammending his design which leads to the death of a lot of people. Hence, exchanging too much knowledge backfires sometime.

In conclusion, Although some imformation needs to be secretive and not to be shared openly. Yet, I think that Most of the information must be shared with each other so that it contributes in the development of society.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both sides of the discussion and state a clear preference for sharing information, so the response answers the central question. The anesthesia example supports the benefits of sharing, while the AK-47 example illustrates possible harm. However, the two arguments are not developed equally: the first explains how shared knowledge can advance medicine, but the second mainly asserts that weapon designs can be adapted, without exploring how this relates to protecting valuable information in research, business, or academia. Your conclusion restates your view, though it could clarify what kinds of information should remain restricted and why. More specific explanation and a more balanced treatment of the two views would make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. This makes the main line of argument easy to follow. Some linking is effective, such as “For example” and “In other words,” but transitions are occasionally mechanical or inaccurate: “To commence with” and “To begin” perform similar functions, and “Although” followed by “Yet” creates an awkward contrast in the conclusion. The opening sentence also combines several ideas in a way that makes the contrast less clear. Use more precise transitions and ensure each paragraph develops one central point in a logical sequence. Clearer references to what “it” or “that information” means would also improve cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “scientific research,” “development,” “threat to society,” and “backfires.” However, the range is limited and several noticeable word-choice, collocation, and spelling errors reduce precision. Examples include “few persons” for “few people,” “too much precious” for “too valuable,” and “exchange knowledge” where “share information” would sound more natural. There are also misspellings such as “wheras,” “opeartions,” and “dicovery.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding the main ideas, but they make the writing less fluent and sometimes awkward. Build accuracy with common academic collocations and proofread carefully for spelling and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including conditional and subordinate clauses, as in “if we wanted to master any field then it is necessary…” and “Although some information needs to be secretive…”. The meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in sentence construction, verb forms, articles, and punctuation. For example, “Because” is used to begin a fragment after the preceding sentence, “some information is too valuable to shared” is missing “be,” and “the people immediately picked it” has an unclear article and reference. Capitalisation after commas is also inconsistent. Practise forming complete sentences and checking verb patterns and articles; greater control of these structures would make your argument clearer.
