Student answer (Band 5.5)

Information plays a crucial role in the development of the modern world. Some people believe that the scientific research, business ideas and information about genetics or research papers should be shared freely throughout the world. On the other hand, others belive that, some information is too valuable to be shared without charge. This essay will discuss both views and give my own opinion.

To begin with, sharing research will helps the public in future and accelerate progress. A large amount of valuable information is available on the website which are helpful for further studies. For example, when scientists freely shared their research on cancer, they discovered chemotherapy and its causes and other researchers could develop better treatments. Similarly, COVID-19 is also a virus and through research it will possiible to discover its vaccine.

While the opponents suggest that some information is too important to be shared, and dispersed freely. This protection is better for agencies or in businesses because a leak of information may cause severe damage to the economy and business. For instance, there are a large number of business competitors and if some quotation is leaked the whole industry will be disturbed and the loss may be unbearable.

Therefore, both views are valid in their own context.

In conclusion, although sharing information for developing business ideas, research or study is helpful and large scale experiments would not be possible for research scholars without it,some information are confidential. For the betterment of the world, balance should be maintained.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You address both views and give a concluding position that information-sharing is useful but confidentiality is sometimes necessary. The examples about cancer research and business leaks are relevant, but the explanation is brief: the cancer example makes a broad claim about discoveries without showing clearly how open access led to them, while the business example does not explain what kind of information should remain protected. Your own opinion is also only implied in “balance should be maintained,” rather than developed with a clear principle or example. The response is one word below the required minimum, so it does not meet the task’s length requirement. Develop each side further and state more precisely when information should be shared or protected.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “To begin with,” “Similarly,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the discussion. However, progression is limited because the two main arguments are each presented briefly, and the conclusion introduces “balance” without explaining how that balance follows from the examples. Some links are awkward or unclear, particularly “While the opponents suggest that some information is too important to be shared, and dispersed freely,” which does not connect smoothly to the explanation that follows. Build clearer links between claims and examples, and use referencing and transitions to show how each point supports your position.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “scientific research,” “valuable information,” “confidential,” and “competitors,” and the meaning is generally understandable. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “severe damage to the economy.” However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or imprecise: “dispersed freely” is not a natural way to describe sharing information, and “some quotation is leaked” does not clearly express the intended business risk. Spelling errors such as “belive” and “possiiible” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, natural combinations and check spelling; for example, describe information as being “made publicly available” or “kept confidential,” depending on the point.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a conditional structure in “if some quotation is leaked,” and most of the argument remains understandable. However, errors occur across verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “sharing research will helps” should use the base verb after “will,” and “a large amount of valuable information … which are helpful” has a mismatch between the singular noun phrase and the verb. The sentence beginning “While the opponents suggest…” is also incomplete or awkwardly joined to the next clause. Review subject–verb agreement and clause boundaries, then proofread for punctuation and spacing. More accurate control of these patterns would make your ideas easier to follow.
