Student answer (Band 6.0)

People have different opinions about whether information regarding scientific research, business and academic field should be related completely to the public or some important information should not be disclosed. While there are valid arguments on both sides, personally I believe valuable information should be held as confidential message. This essay will discuss both views and give my opinion.

On the one hand, some people argue in favour of passing every details of information related science, business and academic field to the public. They felt this way because they believe knowlege is power and to avoid unforeseen circumstances. Firstly, many people believe knowledge is very important in this life and they see it as a way to broaden their intellectual capacity so they concluded it is there right to know every information related to all sectors. Secondly, people also believe when some information are hidden from them, they might be endangered. For instance, during the pandemic of covid-19, some people believe governments and reseacrchers failed them because they consealed information about Covid-19 at first which prompt the largely spread of the virus.

On the other hand, I agree with people that say some valuable information should be hidden and this is due to creation of fear among people. This means when some certain messages are been passed to the people, it will lead to fear. Furthermore, people can totally misunderstand the real mean of the information thereby they tend to promote and pass wrong information among themselves. Therefore, I believe confidential information should be kept from the public. For example, in Nigeria people have various misconceptions about herbs because they believe drugs are been produced from them so they tend to produce their drugs using herbs.

In conclusion, although providing all information related to science, business and academic fields usually assist people to be updated and be aware of what is happpening in their environment, personally I believe limiting the flow of information will provide greater benefits to the community and people.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both sides of the discussion and state a clear position: you support keeping some valuable information confidential. The first body paragraph gives reasons for openness, including public access to knowledge and the risk of concealment during the Covid-19 pandemic. However, the explanation that secrecy can create fear is not fully developed, and the Nigeria example about herbs does not clearly show why valuable research or business information should be withheld. The conclusion restates your view, but the essay would be more convincing if it distinguished sensitive information from information that should be shared for public safety, and supported each main reason with a more directly relevant example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” makes the progression easy to follow. This meets the lower-band expectations and shows some features of stronger organisation. However, links between claims and examples are not always clear: the herbs example does not explicitly connect to the argument about public misunderstanding, and “This means” repeats rather than develops the preceding point. Some transitions, including “Firstly” and “Secondly,” make the reasoning feel list-like. To strengthen progression, explain how each example proves the claim and use clearer referencing between sentences.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some topic-relevant vocabulary, including “confidential,” “misconceptions,” “intellectual capacity,” and “unforeseen circumstances,” and the main ideas remain understandable. However, the range is limited by repeated general terms such as “information,” “people,” and “believe,” while several word choices or collocations are inaccurate: “related completely to the public,” “confidential message,” and “the real mean of the information.” Spelling errors such as “knowlege,” “reseacrchers,” “consealed,” and “happpening” also reduce accuracy. Aim to use more precise terms for the kinds of information being discussed, and check spelling and natural word combinations during revision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional structure in “when some information are hidden from them, they might be endangered” and a relative clause in “people that say some valuable information should be hidden.” Meaning is generally recoverable, but some errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction remain. For example, “some information are” should use a singular verb, and “they concluded it is there right” contains an unclear pronoun and incorrect possessive form. The sentence beginning “Firstly” also joins several ideas without clear punctuation. Review subject–verb agreement and possessives, and divide long sentences where needed so that complex ideas remain controlled.
