Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, sharing information is an important part of scientific research, business, and education. Some people believe that information should be shared freely with everyone , while other think that some information is too valuable to share. In my opinion sharing information is good, but some information is good, nut some information should be kept private.
On the one hand sharing information has many advantages. Firstly it help people learn new things and improve their knowledge. For example, scientist can share their research results with other scientist to find better treatments for diseases. This can save time and help save people's lives. secondly sharing information can improve education. Students can access online books, videos and research papers to learn more about different subjects. Moreover, businesses can share ideas and work together to develop new products and services. As a result society can grow faster.
On the other hand some people believe that creatin information should not be shared freely, There are several reasons for this. Firstly companies spend a lot of money and time developing new products. If they share all their ideas with others, competitors may copy their work. this can causes financial losses. Secondly some scientific information is confidential and should only be available to authorized people. For example personal medical records must be protected to maintain patients privacy. Similarly businesses need to protect their passwords, financial details and trade secrets.
In conclusion both views have valid points. sharing information can increased knowledge, support scientific progress and improve education.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both sides of the discussion and give a clear, relevant position: sharing information is beneficial, but some material should remain private. The examples about researchers sharing results, companies protecting ideas, and medical records support the main points. However, the conclusion only restates the benefits of sharing and does not clearly return to your qualification that valuable or confidential information should be protected. Some ideas are also less fully developed than others: for instance, you mention businesses collaborating to create products, but do not explain how this benefits society or balance it against the risks. Develop both sides more evenly and make your final position explicit.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph supporting open sharing, a paragraph explaining reasons for restricting information, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” helps the reader follow the discussion. This logical structure is a strength. To make the progression more fluent, connect examples more explicitly to the claims they illustrate and avoid relying so heavily on “Firstly” and “Secondly.” The conclusion also feels incomplete because it summarises only the advantages of sharing, rather than bringing together both sides and your stated position. More precise referencing and a fuller final synthesis would strengthen cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “research results,” “competitors,” “confidential,” “authorized people,” and “trade secrets.” These terms are relevant and help distinguish scientific, educational, and business contexts. However, the range is limited by repeated general words such as “information,” “share,” and “good,” and some word choices or forms are inaccurate, including “creatin information” and “financial losses” in a context where the intended meaning is clearer as “financial loss.” Spelling and word-form slips also reduce precision. Build a wider set of accurate collocations for discussing access, ownership, and protection, and check spelling and word forms during revision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mixture of simple sentences and some longer structures, including conditional reasoning in “If they share all their ideas with others, competitors may copy their work.” Most ideas remain understandable, and the paragraphing gives the sentences a clear context. However, some errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and punctuation affect accuracy. Examples include “it help people,” “this can causes,” and “sharing information can increased knowledge.” Capitalisation after full stops is also inconsistent. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and keeping verb forms consistent, especially after modal verbs and in general statements. Adding a few accurately controlled complex sentences would also broaden the range.
